Notepad++, do have dreamweaver cs4, but just can't learn it, and i've noticed the design view doesn't truely represent how the browser looks.... pffft.... what's the point in that then?

If it's like CS3 then it uses IE's layout/rendering engine. LAME LAME LAME.

Damn I've just checked out Screenshots of Zend and the interface is EXACTLY like Eclipse !!!!

 

I do some Java programming and I use Eclipse for that (currently in the process of learning Java)

I'm very much a note-padder. I learn how to write a language then do it the true techie way (Apart from the obvious things you do need a program for such as Flash)

I don't use any fancy all singing all dancing shiny bells and whistles WYSIWYG's! Mainly because I don't like them and they never truly represent or display the site correctly. And they always somehow manage to mess up the HTML tags.

I use netbeans and eclipse. Recently I have been using netbeans alot more. Netbeans just revamped their jscript editor and they just added a pretty cool php editor. The only thing I have against netbeans is how dumb the code assist is. For that, I use eclipse.

I don't prefer WYSIWYG tools TextMate's the best choice for me

I've had a play with NB, but I found it pretty slow and the formatting for PHP is a bit of an arse.

I'm currently using Notepad++ I heard it had a good HTML plugin that helped a lot !

 

However the plugin doesn't install it says something about my version being incompatible with the plugin or something silly like that !

WeBuilder is definitely one of the best programs I've ever used.

 

Been using it for a couple of years now, and can honestly say it's absolutely brilliant, no matter what language you're writing.

 

And people say Mac's are better

How has this not been added? This simply is the BEST IDE for web developers imo. (it is a bit buggy on x64 atm)

 

You can have multiple views for different browsers (as long as they're installed on the system).

Loads of plugins available too

Will seeing as there is only one vote for expression web and I know voted for expression web, I guess that vote must be mine. I use the code view, css editor and ftp manager, all of which I prefer above dream weaver. I have not used the design view, so I can not comment on how good or bad that is. for quick edits at work, I use notepad as expression web runs to slowly on the older pc's we have running in our lab. For viewing the result of my coding I use all the major browsers, starting with firefox and ending with ie7. I have a css validator, html validator and screen size plugin installed with firefox which is fantastic for checking and ensuring things are going in the direction they should. When I am coding php pages I use chrome to view the results as it renders pages off the local server significantly faster then firefox (don't know why).

 

The only reason I use expression web, is for the dynamic web page templates. Maintaining larger pure html sites with only notepad was proving a major headache! I have recently started experimenting with php and content management.

 

Interestingly Microsoft visual web developer express edition is a very powerful, free, code editor which I also use from time to time, especially when working with xml.

Agreed, that's why I've searched the forum to see what everyone else uses. I'm disappointed with the results tbh.

The number of people using Dreamweaver has made me realize that I'm actually pretty good at what I do. Not to say those who use DW are not automatically good at what they do, but I would guess the chance is lower. Big up the textmate and notepad++ ers out there.

I've used notepad++ etc before, find it's great as text editors go.. but IDE's improve your productivity in my opinion.

 

I'd love something similar to Aptana.. just faster and 64bit compatible. I like to have jQuery code hinting though, which isn't something many have! Dispite Dreamweaver CS4 saying it supports it, I don't seem to be able to figure out how to enable it :S

I use e-Text Editor. It's bascially textmate for Windows, but is lacking some functionality

I use notepad for quick changes and otherwise Programmers notepad. Colours the text based upon the syntax. I find it extremely useful for programming php.

I tried Netbeans, which is slightly faster than Aptana (not much) but found it's PHP text editing features a bit lacking. PhpED is possibly one of the best editors I've tried in terms of speed, and they seem quite a friendly (and persistent) bunch, offering good discounts. It's just a bit pricey.

WeBuilder isn't really a proper IDE, but it does the best job of the muscled up text eds out there IMHO.

HTML pad 08 as always...

Dreamweaver, notepad++ and notepad mi use.

I use Dreamweaver code view at work and Ultra Edit at home.

 

I love Dreamweaver for the fact that it auto-closes your tags and I like the colour scheme. I would never use the Design View though!
