Good start to the site, but i dont think much thought into the design and style of the site. The main reason I say this is that when i first looked at the site i thiough it would be some fantasy project/book etc rather than a schools guardian program. Maybe think of a different design to fit the purpose and TA of your site?

I have to agree with everything that is said before.. the design is frankly horrible, it put me off soo much i didnt even want to go to a second page to review the site. (The colours). The content is poorly written with not much thought put into it. And the scrolling is pointless, just have a really long page. Edit: and agreeing with the post above, check out some templates and see what works well on them and what you like on them, borrow some ideas and/or colour schemes.

Its a nice start to the website, although there are a few things i would change. 1. Put something else in the header, it looks too empty for the size it is and is a bit poitnless. 2. Add some padding to the top as i think it would look better away from the browser page. 3. The "Free Website Design" shadow effect is not too good and is more of a deterant than an advertisment. 4. Make the links a bit smaller, becouse it makes me feel a bit stupid . 5. Finally, move the style changer links to sone other place on the page as they should not really be on par with the navigation. Thats about it for now, have not checked the coding but it should be perfect if you have been practasing it for 5 years.

I think it would be great if you expanded on the rubix cube idea and had a 3d flash cube with your projects on (not that i know how to do that) .. just brainstorming,..

Hello.. I like the site you have created for your client, design is very nice and with the images you have added, works well for the target audience. However I have one major concern and a minor one, first off, the main content is way way way to far down the page and i spent 2 minuites looking for what i was meant to read, this is not very good and should be altered in an effective way (obvious trick would be to cahnge the layout a bit and move it upwards). My little concern is the background colour of the footer is not a suitable colour and needs to be changed so the text is easier to read. Other than these problems, great design and nice selection of font etc. P.S. you also have a slight validation error in the html, one of the images does not have an alt value, therefore meaning your site does not validate.

Honestly..I cant decide which one is worse.. the logo is terrible.. the choice of font for header is bad.. the nav is poorly amde and colours arnt great, font is not thought about and no layout is put into place. The gradients ontop of each other are not appealing in any way.. and the page is just plain.. ouch! Your HTML does not validate.. easy to fix.. [link] the CSS also fails to validate [link]

I like this site and think it is a very effective design, the grey and dark red compliment each other well and it looks like a professional, well made brochrue site. However, as said before you should try and recreate the nav in CSS. Also i suggest you try something with the 4 images as they dont seem to work for me, maybe push them together and have a border surround them all or something simmilar. Just my views. Good luck and nice job so far!

I seem to have the same problem, it seems to be like it for the first 3 pages, then moves to top on rest, is it meant to be like this, is isa this a probelm you need to fix? Except from that, very nice site

He must be.. seriously. The concept behind the site is a good idea, however thes site looks unprofessional and basic. alot of users work on asthetics and when they see a site like this they will quickly press the back button. Furthermore, i havnt seen it in any of the previous posts, but you seem to be looking for someone to do your work, and this is not the place for it, maybe a different section of the forum? What is with the bar on the right, unless im viewing it strangly, there is a bit filled in at the top and at the bottom then a big open space, are you intending to use that later on. Anyways, good luck on your project. It cant get much worse than it is now

The underlying concept is good, hover the design is poor and is not appealing at all. The colours you chose dont go too well and its not pleasing to look at. You may also want to check over your coding, (PVC's Printscreen)

Anyone know of a good JavaScript or jquery pop up thing where you click on a thumbnail and the screen goes dark adn the image comes up, forgot what the effect is called. Please can it be opensource.

Yeh what it sounds like your trying to do is set the width to 100% or simmilar percetage, so it appears the same on all resolutions, a simple width:100%; will do fine.

Yeh i need to work on the background, the logos on right will take you to group specific section with news etc and i will edit the logo so it takes you back to main page... Changing background image, see what you think.. the home page one should be new and how to join will be old, this will be uploaded a couple of mins after this post.

Thanks for the feedback, im going to change the background, maybe a radial gradient? and i know what the scouts do, I am part of them, and will add a different pic in header for each page to show what the scouts do Anything else i should add?

making a scout website for one of my friends, bit of charity work . what do you think of it and what shall i do to improve it. http://www.alternativestuff.co.uk/scouts just some constructive crit and only 1st 2 pages are online atm edit: the Home page and how to join pages have different backs, which is better. and dont moan about tiling of background will fix that later.

no so where u can have more than two values and if you toggle between them with js for example, one wont stay instead of another.. the cascading rule

Is it possible to make multiple values equal in css rather than it working.. well .. like css?

I recommend using jquery, I recently started learning it and i found that http://blog.themeforest.net/tutorials/jque...s-video-series/ is a great recource, explains everything in best detail possible and starts at bigginer and slowly advances in skill level and understanding.
