  1. Try Notepad++... it is decent and free... but not 100% GUI....
  2. Hi I also use Aptana ....It is used for PHP, but it colour codes your html which makes it real easy to understand I also use ZenD 5.5 ...Again it is used for PHP but html supports is also built in

  6. hi 1. it has a very simple monotone look to it.. i suggest u use atleast 2 colours to add a good contrast to the site. 2. you need to emphasis important title text. like making it bigger in size and add some colour to it. 3. u need to distinguish text from each other by putting text in boxes of different colour for the right columns sumeet shroff

AVOID putting the page.php in a subfolder, you will a lot of problems with linking of images / css and other files etc. you can create an /includes/folder and call one php file there application_top.php that file inturn will call all the other files. config.php, left.php right.php header.php footer.php etc.
  12. most good template cost money and require customisation... hence it seems practically to create one of for yourself and customised it ..
