Help with Google Analytics

Featured Replies

I have google analytics installed on a website and have never done much with it in terms of checking position on google for various keywords.

Now I have a client who wants me to "take a photograph" (I imagine he means snapshot) of its actual position so we can compare it to the new site when it comes out.

That sounds like a great idea but how would I go about doing this?

Thanks Jack,

I'm trying to cram as much Google analytics, SEO stuff, into my brain as possible by Wednesday morning. It always helps to have some documentation.

Is he referring to the average position of the site in the SERPS?

If so this can be done via Google Webmaster Tools too!

You can also use something like this -> http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/rank-checker/

To check your current ranking for any given keyword ./ keywords.

Update them once a day and keep the results in a spreadsheet?

Might be a good thing to be able to show them?

There are two ways to show him exact position.

1. Use pick pick tool to crop exact analytical graph and store it in jpg or png format.

2. Create custom reporting dashborad and export it with comparing previous analytics.

i hope it will work for your issue .

Yeah use something like serpbook for his keywords and analytics to see actual traffic. No point being number if you get no traffic.

You can also drill down and show just traffic from organics (search engines) to get a better understandong of how well the website is performing in SE's

There are various keyword rank checking software available online which you can use and check the position on your site in SERPs.

It is a while since I last did this but you can have both versions of your site live and set google to display alternate versions to visitors, then analytic's will do the comparison work for you. It takes only a few minutes per add campaign to set up once you have both versions of the site live, then if the new version does not outperform the old you don't have to go back and rebuild the old version!

The google ads help pages have very good explanations of how to go about this, even a novice like myself found it quite workable.

One quick tip. Add an annotation to analytics the date the new site launches and if you make any tweaks in the first few months always note them in analytics, you can make private notes too. This helps when looking back to see what happened and when, an often overlooked feature and a God send for any negative fallout :D

U can integrate keywords from GWT into Google Analytics. It will help to see which keywords drive traffics into your site.
