Re-design #2

Featured Replies

I posted up a redesign of my site a few weeks ago , but decides to scrap it as i didn't like the way it was going, now im on to design #2.

http://cdcoding.com/new/index.html

When looking throgh themeforest i found several templates i liked so merged them all into one (everything has been coded by me (except jquery and bootstrap/icomoon)).

Just looking for some feedback.

p.s. It is not responsive at the moment but will be later on

Something's wrong somewhere? All I'm seeing is your logo, background and menu on the index page. The menu doesn't seem to be working.

Only had a quick look as couldn't really see the site, but one thing to note - you're missing title tags in the <head> section.

Thanks for your reply, by any chance are you using IE? if not what are you using

-- EDIT --

If you were using IE i have fixed the problem, for some reason $('.element').css('border-width') does not work in IE :|

No, Firefox 20 at the moment. Doesn't work in ie8 though if that's any help.

Validator is throwing up a bunch of errors about using data-src instead of src for your image placeholders but since js isn't my strong point maybe someone else will come along with a better answer. Suspect you still need the src attribute for the images though :)

Working in FF now, seems to be a bit temperamental.

Yea sorry about that, should of at least checked FF before i uploaded as for the data-src that is due to a JS plugin

the disabled scrolling is a bug or feature? :) as a user, i would expect to be able to use mousewheel, not just the navigation to scroll throught the website's sections

Edited by chutko

what suggestions do you expect your design is outrageous i mean i never seen something like that so unique:D

Goodluck with it:D

Thanks for the comments, i have prevented scroll as a feature not a bug as i wantd something a little diffrent to the sites out there ATM.

I have updated the version at http://www.cdcoding.com/new/ it now has a mobile theme and a very limited tablet version, can i get your opinions on the usability of it as im not 100%.

p.s. Sorry to bump an old topic, thought it would be better then opening a new one.

i don't like having my scroll disabled - it's aking to not letting me resize my window or resizing it for me

i'm still automatically trying to scroll for the third time even when i know it won't work :(

content falls out if its container when increased in size a couple of notches

nav list is a bit tight - bit more line height

I was going to say the same. Enabling scroll for UI might be an idea. Also, if the nav enabled a smooth scroll to it's respective page (rather than it being so abrupt) might add appeal as well. Just an opinion. Then there is the argument of left v right hand navigation - again, for majority UI. Otherise great concept. Nnicely done.

D4Y0 I didn't like scroll , Try to make your website SEO friendly , make different pages with different urls for each page .

Then that kind of takes away the point for this type of design, yes i will loos out on SEO but will it affect me much, no? its not like im trying to get to the top of google for 'web design'

As for the scroll im working on a work around

For me you have a very simple page which is not that have a lot of work ,which is cool also.In Finland where i use to be a project manager or projektijohtaminen we do most detailed work and make strategy and proper management in order to finish the work look nice ,which i notice to your page is not detail that's why i say it simple. But then if you share the complete design for it for sure i will judge it if it is look nice or not good.

I really enjoy your site. The scroll is very unique. I am torn if I think it should be changed or not. Like many others who have posted, I keep trying to scroll with the mouse. On the other hand it does show that you have the ability to create a unique function that others may not have seen and that could be good to promote yourself. I also like the simplicity of the blue, it doesn't detract from your content and lets that be the feature rather than a lot of other designs going on around it.

This is what i was trying to achieve, all the user needs to know is what work i do, what work i have done, and a way for them to contact me. The more i add the more the user can be distracted by.

i love that scroll with pages , i keep seing your website about that:p i never seen something like that;p

Glad you like it.

As you scroll with the mouse does it scroll to the next page, if so do you think this is a good compromise, maybe i have to change the delay before you can scroll again. As for the colors that is exactly what i was trying to achieve i wanted a nice clean and easy to read/use site. As i said before i dont want to over complicate showuing the user A, B, C, D, E, F and G when they only need to see A, B, C and D

Very interesting design idea! To assist quicker navigation it may be a good idea to make each of the page blocks clickable i.e. when looking at normal view you see 3 of them on screen, at this point it would be nice to click on the top one to scroll up to it or the bottom to go down, instead of just using the mouse wheel.
