After 6 years in the industry I'm sure you're far from rubbish, to me it sounds like you've taken a knock back which has dented your confidence. You can't please all of the people all of the time, this is life. Everyone will have their own opinions, this is human nature. The most important opinion at this time is of the people you have designed the site for, If they are not happy with how its looking then think about what they don't like and if necessary go back to the drawing board and hit them with new ideas/concept based on their thoughts.The functionality can stay the same, designs, colour schemes CSS etc can be changed easier once planned out thoroughly. "I'd never worked on anything this big and public before" - I think this is a telltale sign of why you are feeling like this, sounds like you're experiencing different challenges which you are not used to, don't let this get you down it's good to be shaken up a bit, it helps you to think about things differently, things you may have overlooked previously. This happens to all of us all of the time and I think it's one of the best ways to learn. Stop doubting yourself, you are where you are because you're good at what you do.

I like number 4 overall: the word stream makes me think of flowing curves and the font on this one has these curved edges with each letter flowing into each other - I like the way this feels. When you hit the word box sharpness comes to mind and this is where number 5 has more impact for me, for this word. Out of those number 4 has the edge but I'd be tempted to play with a different font (sharper) for the word box just to see how it feels

You need to pick a base colour - at the moment it's the far too bright Green and it's too overpowering for the page, this is causing all the other colours to clash and compete for space, which is confusing for the brain. Try swapping the Green out for a neutral colour, then add splashes of colours which work together in harmony. Use a colour chart like this http://colorschemedesigner.com/ to find a good balance. From a design perspective it feels a little dated and lacking a bit of soul. To put a current twist on this try a different font and some space added through padding. I think the colour scheme needs to worked out and given a bit more thought, it will be easier if you choose say 4 prime colours and then shades of these colours to keep everything together. This may help you choose: http://colorschemedesigner.com/ The background image makes the page what it is, the problem is it's so colourful, this is making it difficult to choose main colours for the website. You may struggle to get colours to fit this unless you perhaps make all boxes backgrounds white and then change the colour of the text in places. Experimenting with transparency may work here, similar to what Apple have done with IOS7 to overcome the users custom colourful backgrounds. Very interesting design idea! To assist quicker navigation it may be a good idea to make each of the page blocks clickable i.e. when looking at normal view you see 3 of them on screen, at this point it would be nice to click on the top one to scroll up to it or the bottom to go down, instead of just using the mouse wheel.

I would say that you need to build on your basic skills and try a few projects yourself. Once you feel you have enough skill to offer for free or for a small price then I would go to small businesses and offer to do small work on website (knowing that your confident you can complete the work within a good time frame and also not break the current design) This will help with a portfolio and then I would look at junior positions in the industry, always keep learning and developing your skills. I agree with Jack, people often gain more and more followers and will not suffer from the justunfollow if they are not making too much noise, and the noise they are making is interesting, relevant and timely. Having a mixture of varied posts and unique content will help you engage with the audience and your followers.

MOZ is a great resource http://moz.com/blog their blog and infographics are brilliant Watched one of the execs from moz speak about social media and what to share, times on sharing, types of media to share etc.... to get the biggest engagement and traffic to the website. The slides and videos are not up yet but they soon will be!

Linkedin is like most tools - the more you put in the more you get out. Ak****a Sharma makes a good point, having a strong profile with relevant, up-to-date and interesting information is key - you do not want the viewers to look at a profile and say "so what" you want them to look at it and want to know more (and then gain a click through) Also having your own group with great not just good but great content will encourage your audience to share the content beyond the group and/or follow you and share your content on other platforms. Linkedin like all social media takes time, not necessarily difficult, just needs to be worked on.
