THe Website looks nice... The Color combination is perfect, it would look better if you had provided some sliders or image gallery kind of thing in the portfolio section. All over its great.

OK peeps, I've completed changed it. I felt the bground was too dark so now I've my image of the statue of David as the overall bground image:

4mb and a png for background image?

As dap said the background is way to large, as for the site it is aligned left on my screen (not sure if it is planned) but it is only usinf up 40% of my screen width so looks out of place, aligning it in the center would look better IMO

I've got a 27" iMac and the background is the size it needs to be I think to fill that resolution and still be a crisp image. It is always aligned to the right hand side of the screen so that the statue of David is always looking at the content on the left, which is left-aligned as planned. The bground always fills the width of the browser window.

 

Surely if I made the bground smaller, it would lose its resolution quality on screens as large as mine? I like the content being on the left with David looking at it, and it's quite different IMO.

i dont like this who goes down along with the website the one who you position:fixed.

I know you use a 27" iMac monitor but how many of your visitors will be using that size of monitor? Try finding the more generic sizes as I am looking at this on a 15" laptop and can barely see the content.

 

what would you think of the header stretching all the way across and being semi-transparant? Same with the footer, only not let it be a sticky layer? And or at least righty justify it. Just a thought.

you need to save the bg as a jpeg and optimise it - it's a background image so it doesnt need to be so crisp. crisp is all very well and good but not 4mb worth of it

OK, I've unfixed the header and footer so that they move with scrolling, and I've turned the bground into a jpg.

You also need to watch for readability. When the text goes over the earphones in the background it is unreadable. Also your nav div is off the screen and the font size is too small.

Do you mean the red portfolio nav? Off the screen? Could you please show me a snapshot?

at about 840 px wide the headphones start to fall under the text

 

if you have the web developer extension for firefox (or chrome?!) then can see using Resize - view responsive layouts

 

your background is a jpeg but it's still way too big - @1.7mb - quick save for web in photoshop at a reasonable lower quality achieves sub 300k weight - this is such a basic thing for web design that i'm surprised you can't manage it - if you're offering your services you should at leaast know the basics

I don't think the headphone and text is such a problem. Afterall, people can scroll to read it.

I don't know if any of you know much about Flash, and this topic might have to be moved, but does anyone know why, on my interactive Flash shop, if you hover over the compartments the text next to the box on the top left is incorrect (it doesn't show all the letters that it should). Here:

from what i remeber this is much nicer and easier on the eyes, needs work on anything smaller then 1024px wide thogh

To be honest I think the landing is lacking a little punch for a designer's advert! The site as a whole is pretty good, the concept is still evolving judging by your previous post's in this thread and so maybe you could experiment with an effect like this one from Codrops blueprints. It has a simple and smooth scroll by page effect which has an elegant feel about it.

 

When I first had a play with it I was creating my weedy101 experiment which is a little colourfull as the colours where used to emphasize the shadow effects, but the navigation is based on the Codrops article and a little tweaking. The content is also purely a filling and I must say the contact form 'glows in the dark' you have been warned

It's good, very well laid out sharp site.

 

However, the body font size seems to be a little bit on the small side (titles are fine) and have you considered making the site responsive?

This is just a personally opinion because I don't like a big navigation but maybe try when you scroll down to a cetain point have the height of the nav bar shrink a little, to show a little more content on the screen?

I agree with what JRP says. The nav takes focus from the content.

 

Overall, a really nice site. I like the red and gray together, really gives it an edge.

 

If I had to pick something, I think the footer text is far too small. I'd have it bigger personally.

Hi guys, I've been working on a brand new concept for my website, which you can view at:

The idea is to have 12 colour-coded cards that represent each field I work in. The user can click on the card to view each separate section of the site (which will have a fullscreen background of the colour on the card, or they can flip the cards around to reveal, say, a bar chart of 'competency', 'well-roundedness', 'appreciation' (which will be social media points), etc.

 

I want to make the site fully responsive as I want to get onto top online galleries.

 

Please let me know your thoughts on the concept and the current design progress.

It's an alright approach, though it's only your content. You could take a look into the many CSS boilerplates to see if there is something you are comfortable to use (or write your own flexi/ responsive grid), preferably where grids don't just drop to 1 or 2 in a row but actually fill the remaining width - minus borders and padding.
