Unlimited Hosting!

Featured Replies

I've been thinking just now about switching my hosting packages, which came out of my earlier post about hosting and admin charges earlier in the the week.

First of all don't be fooled by my thread title. I'm very much aware and dubious of the notion of so called "unlimited" hosting packages but I came across a deal tonight that sounded too good to be true.

Unlimited Web Hosting.co.uk sound like an absolute dream. They seem to offer a basic simple concept. Web Hosting with unlimited domains for £2.99p/month or Reseller hosting for £9.99p/month. That sounds like a real crowdpuller and perhaps the sort of deal I'm looking for.

Is anyone here on the forum with them? Can you advise me if they are as good as they say they are? I've been with Heart for a few years now and never had a problem with them except I can't afford to upgrade to the price they ask to host multiple packages with them never mind the domains rates they offer.

Thanks :)

Hi Jon

It sounds like you have somewhat answered your own question, in that you know full well about the so called "unlimited" cowboys, yet your now asking "but I've seen this unlimited one and it looks great"....

They all look great on paper mate... Resources however, always come at a price, and somebody has to pay that bill, so the only way to make sure its not them is to throw in loads of other limits instead, like "You can have unlimited traffic, so long as you dont use more than 1% CPU" or unlimited domains, but its on plesk, which is licenced by the number of domains per install, so somebody somewhere is not being up front about costs.

Read the T&C's carefully, then ask them what they consider over-use of server resources. Your going to get the same answer that all the "unlimited hosts" will give you..

Really low or impossible to use figures that would leave you paying for a white elephant.

Had this same conversation before with loads of hosts asking them various things and had everything from "We use single dual core CPU servers with 1GB ram" (PMSL) to "If a client reached 2% CPU usage then they would be required to take out their own dedicated server" (Suck you in then hit you with a big bill)

Every excuse you can think of mate.

Quality costs money. If it sounds too good to be true.... Well, you know the rest.

Website says "Since 2006" yet the domain was only registered in 2009??

Go check how easy it is to write your own reviews at reviewcentre too, they dont check anything last time we checked.

Oh and the clincher, their address on their website is an estate agents??

Do you think this company would do that to me further along down the line? I had a good look at their T&C's... I can't find any information about overusse and their "acceptable use" policies don't tell me much at all.

:D :D :D

Well... one can only ask. :p

remember to add 20% VAT to the prices.

It's more of a case that their prices don't include vat, see the small print at the bottom of their site.

Duhhh me! :sorry: Of course! Thanks for that. :)

We moved a reseller 20+ active sites from them to our platform.

Our client said on the positive side their support was quick and friendly, on the negatives they had performance issues with even basic html sites, they had numerous periods of downtime and the major issues email was often down and unreachable for "a number of customers".

I can't say if it's gospel and it certainly wasn't all negative, but our new client (their old) is paying us considerably more for our services so you'd assume there was good reason for them to do so.

I've said many times on this forum I dislike the term unlimited, it's misleading and often false advertising protected by the finest of small prints hidden in the depths of the terms and often is actually limited, very limited.

As far as I'm aware they have a storage limit of 20GB per account.

Y'know, that's actually quite appealing for the price - you could back up a small VPS to it over FTP.

Tricky one isn't it? Up there with the "Up to *insert number here*" broadband speeds.

Unfortunately they could be a completely decent company but to compete with the vast amount of crap out there, they've got to push the service as 'unlimited'.

Their customer testimonials sound very good and their terms seem very fair. I'm teetering on the brink of joining this company, but I'm going to have to stockpile on paypal first before I do, and money at the moment, is an issue.

Apologies for a slightly pee'd off first post but I was just about to write up a very helpful review of unlimited webhosting but due so some very odd mixture of tables and iframes going on in this posting form Firefox has deleted my post twice after pressing cmd + arrow key and dissapearing off on to the previous page Garrrhghghgh lol

Maybe I'll come back in a minute after I've calmed down

Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

There are no exceptions to this rule. You get exactly the sort of service you pay for.

I just came out of a thread where someone was leaving Heart because of some sort of spotty service...Even thought I can't really remember it and I wouldn't go out on a limb to slander someone without all of the facts. These kind of hosts offer reliable service at a low cost, maintaining of course that you only use your shared amount of resources allocated. As long as you don't use too much of your resources with inefficient or faulty script, you shouldn't have a problem with it. However, I would do as much research as possible into cost, services that a Web Host provides, and the quality of care and customer service that they are capable of offering before making a decision.

I have used this host for a few years now, mostly just plain old HTML sites, a few wordpress ones and a bbforum one. To be honest, never had a issue with them and their support really is second to none.

dont go with these guys.....been with em for nearly 8 mths, and as my online store grows, the more down time it has.

i posted elsewhere on here looking for another host like ASAP..or i,m gonna lose a hell of a lot of cash over xmas.

ive had it with the excuses and down time....
