Basically they have changed the font and half fixed the kerning. I think the page though is an excellent example of when a designer is getting paid far too much and feels the need to spend most of their time writing guff that sort of might relate to the new logo to justify their rate.

 

Apparently it's uniform to represent modern easy to use eBay, it's touching to represent the connected community and it's rooted in their proud history. All the while representing their dynamic future. (because in bull**** land uniform and dynamic aren't actually opposites!)

Saw this earlier. Let's just say I wish I'd been the guy on the receiving end of the pay check for this!

 

Also are eBay planning on making the site modern and easy to use? That I'd like to see!

I wonder how many meetings it took to come up with that when in reality I could have popped into the office, shouted sans-serif and popped out again.

I saw it, and thought of Google. Kinda' like that game where you say the colour not the word, like: black green blue red. This time, with brands.

The logo - very boring.

 

The site - quite a nice use of the parralax effect.

 

With the amount of lawsuits going around the IT world I wont be suprised if someone tries to sue someone else for this design. Google, and ebay have basically just taken the principles from windows metro. But, i dont like windows so I don't care

Indeed, but the new pastel colours are so close to Google's latest look. Plus, I bet none of us here see the ebay logo more often than Google.

Not sure why they wouldnt capitalise the B... I do love the iPad app though

And the rest of the site has 'eBay' all over it so what happened to the capital in the logo?

oh dear.

I agree with the "placeholder" statement; it looks a bit like when you design something and there is some element to that design that you know roughly what it will be but haven't come up with a proper design for it yet, so stick in something thats roughly close so its not white space.

 

I also don't like the product display with varying sized cells, it annoys me and makes it look cluttered; like a pound shop with all the products strewen everywhere. Funny what an impression something like that can make isn't it.

The only positive thing I can say is... it's better than the London 2012 logo.

I notice the favicon on the eBay site still appears to be the old logo.

its reminds me of the new windows logo in the sense that no skill was required to create it. Windows logo, 4 squares..OMG, so many months of hard work in photoshop or illustrator. ebay, 4 letters in a nice simple font...ooo, difficult. And no doubt some man somewhere is claiming to be a graphics god, and get a huge $million cheque...NICE!

The point of a decent logo is to convey the brand as simply as possible. Let's not go back to the days of heavy gradients, lens flares and garish colours. Logo design is deffinately when the KISS principle become extremely important.

Agreed, the problem here isn't the simplicity as there's nothing wrong with simplicity in itself.

I love the new logo and the site re-design, apart from the ridiculously overdone box shadows which are a total "WTF??" for me.

 

K.I.S.S. ~ wins every time.

I loved the messed up wonky, unevenly sized typography of the original logo.

 

That's exactly what eBay is, a marketplace for all shapes and sizes. This one is just too clean for me, but at least they kept the funky colors.

It has lost some of the energy of the original.
