A wee project I'm working on. A one page website which brings in news from the numerous Morton websites out there and displays it on this new site, and links up with all the Morton social media accounts. An idea I had which should stop the need for Morton fans to browse through several sites to check for updates.

Ryan Deegan reacted to teodora in How is this done in photoshop?Hi To make this you need to know how to work with basic shapes, and you need to know your way around layer styles:
To recreate the shining, you need:
1. Create a circle in photoshop
2. Make sure fill is set to 100%
3. Double click on the circle layer to open layer styles window
4. Select Gradient overlay
5. From the Gradient style dropdown below select Angle
6. Add more Colour stops to your gradient, as shown below. Here is a link to different golden shades http://0to255.com/c59412
Then you will have something similar to this:
To create the arcs, you need to :
1.Make a circle
2. Make a smaller circle
3. Combine the two shapes by selecting both layers, right-click and select combine shapes.
4. You need to subtract the front shape (the smaller circle) from the top menu (just next to width and height).
5. Create a few rectangles and subtract them from the shape.
Play with the shapes until you achieve what you need.
Another way is to use the Pen tool to create the arcs.
After you have your desired shapes, repeat the gradient using different colours, grays and black. Play with the gradients until you achieve the shining effect.

body{background-color:blue; text-align:center;} #wrapper{width:960px; margin: 0 auto; text-align:left; background-color:white;} Change your background colours and width to suit.
I think. May have missed a part out but off the top of my head that's it.

Ryan Deegan got a reaction from heydanreeves in Selecting Social Media.In my case, I use Twitter to talk about the web and interact with other designers/developers. I use Facebook for friends and personal stuff, a profile unrelated to my web work which I like to be kept separate.
I've noticed that when freelancers do link to their Facebook, the majority of the time it's to their Facebook page and not their own personal profile, so I assume others are the same as me on this. I don't have a Facebook page, but I imagine it's not quite as useful as Twitter for interacting with others in the industry.
As for Spotify/Rdio... couldn't tell you.
