What should I do to improve this site?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Here's a site I put together very quickly as I took the project on just two weeks before they needed it up and running for an event.

www.burstradio.co.uk

It's the site for my university's (internet) radio station. I've now got the luxury of a couple of months to improve it before they start broadcasting again in September.

What would you do to improve it?

Things that have to stay the same are:

- the logo

- the platform (WordPress)

Also we've got a new radio player sorted.

We're doing some work on it here but I thought it would be good to get a fresh perspective from you guys.

Any comments appreciated, thanks :)

I would suggest removing the pebble beach background and go with something simpler that doesn't take attention off the actual site.

Agreed, and it would look a lot better if the background weren't 'fixed' and scrolled with the rest of the content.

When you hover over one of the navigation buttons, the white box that appears doesn't quite fit to the bottom of the words or at least it seems that way. Just a small thing but its the small things that count ! :)

Thanks for your replies everyone, much appreciated :)

definitely get rid of that background ;) also lose the fully justified text and go with left aligned

don't forget the favicon

white background to the search box so it stands out

first paragraph "All of whom started their careers in student radio. Join the Burst Radio Production or Operations teams, and lead the way in professional broadcasting practise" should be the noun, "practice"

I like the background, it would be better if you toned everything down ditched the colour and use loads of grays but keep that bright logo on

I like the background too :D Perhaps I'm biased though! It's worth bearing in mind though that his is student radio not a business site.

I think I may try a new version of the background which scrolls and which fades to grey around the edges.

"it would be better if you toned everything down ditched the colour and use loads of grays but keep that bright logo on " good idea, I'll give it a go when I next have a play around with it.

" lose the fully justified text and go with left aligned" I hadn't noticed it was justified, I agree totally, left aligned is much better.

A favicon? Of course!

Thanks everyone too for pointing out the glitches and the typo.

1.You need to make the background a higher revolution for larger displays as on my 27inch display it cut offs to a grey background.

2.Also the logo seems to be at the far left corner of my screen and not centered like the rest of the content as well as the search bar being the same but to the left.

3.Your navigation hover cuts off some of the text.

4.The drop down navigation could do with some transparent background to help separate it from your background, think that would help clear it up.

5.Your full story buttons are not properly aligned and could do with some spacing at the bottom

6. maybe add a border around some of the images to bring them to life and separate them a bit

This is what i recon would improve your site but each to there own.

Good luck

It also annoys me that the logo words aren't aligned at the same angle. But u said no logo crits, but it really bugged me haha!

I'm with the tone the background down but keep it brigade. Have you tried playing with the opacity?

Before launching the website this website you have to inform the users about this site so they can quickly rush on towards that site. By making strong SEO of this site you can improve your website ranking. By placing good and attractive font colour of background this throws a good impression on the users. By placing important and useful content on this site, as it is a University's site place the more important topics, recent and past examination papers.
