  2. My mistake. As for variable thickness, I cannot speak on Lev's behalf who first mentioned it, but my opinion was that the upper arch of the 'a' and the beginning of the middle and bottom extremity of 'k' could use a more blended approach to variable thickness. It is carried out perfectly in the loop of the 'a' which is what led me to incorrectly speculate that you had cut this from a typed 'a'.
  3. Agreed, although I suspect that the basis of the 'a' was formed on expanded text rather than being created from scratch. To the OP, if you have a graphics tablet like a wacom then you can use existing brushes by setting them to 'pressure' mode. If you don't have a tablet you can create your own art brushes that have a variable thickness using stretched basic shapes. E.g. a circle that is stretched horizontally to form a squashed elipse will give you a tapering line with rounded edges. An isosceles triangle on it's side with the point stretched out will give you a tapering line with a pointed end.

  5. Does anybody mind if I chuck some of my clothes in, seeing as there is a lot of dirty laundry being washed in public... Whilst your former partner was indeed a silly boy to try and deal with this issue publically, there may also be a lesson for you to learn with regards to setting shared boundaries with a future partner. A business partnership, just as in a romantic partnership, is often shattered by the small things rather than the big things.
  6. Do you have this on a live server that we can see or would you rather keep that private?
  7. Yep, certainly looks like the loss is because of resizing. Is this being used within a CMS framework like wordpress? Check your code to see what size the image bounding box is and adjust your output file to match this size. You can also do this by right-clicking on the image in the browser to see what dimensions it wants to be.

  9. It is rare to see someone who comes onto design forums asking for help that actually listens to the advice given. You have listened and learned and achieved what you wanted, well done.

  11. I actually thought that they both looked more like a medical logo with the cross and the 'SS' looks like the snake and staff that usually appears on hospital logos.
  12. I trust that your legal advice is better than your logo design skills? Now usually in this situation where someone has decided to design their own logo I turn the tables and so if it was a dentist I'd say, 'would you expect your customers to do their own dental work or hire a professional?' but in this case you are setting up a law company even though you are still a student so you are already a lost cause.
  13. Looking good, how did the colours work out on paper?

  15. Looking at it, there is only a small square area (the logo) that actually needs to be made up of images, absolutely everything else on that layout can be achieved with HTML/CSS. Whilst it is always good practice to come up with a static layout of a website in photoshop before embarking on the coding, in this case you might have saved some time by sticking to pen and paper
  16. In photoshop, open the Image menu, select 'Canvas Size' Make sure that the units are set to 'pixels', make sure that 'relative' is unchecked. Set the width to 900, leave the height as it is. In the 'Anchor' grid make sure the square in the very centre is selected so that an arrow goes out in each direction around it like a compass (should be as default). Click OK. That should evenly trim off that excess that you have. Remember that the aim when converting a PSD is that the majority of the .psd should be replaced by css that gives the same effect. So if you need a white box you use css rather than a white slice. If you have a background that is 800px high by 900 wide then you make an image that is 800px high and 1px wide and use css to repeat is horizontally. Avoid having images that match or exceed the entire width or height of the visible pane. For example if you have a banner that needs to appear 900px wide then you have a section on the left that might be 200px wide and a section on the right that might be another 200px wide. This middle section should be made up of a repeated 1px slice so that there is room for the layout to expand and contract depending on the users device/screen size.
  17. They look good but... using 'infinity' as a logo element has been done to death and doesn't really add anything new. Your first logo is a broken infinity, so I'm not sure what that really means? Your second logo really does just look like an 8 on it's side. Your third logo is probably the better of the three, but the strapline 'OWEN ONEILL' could use a bit of work. It is perhaps a little bland and it might benefit from a heavier weighting. Can you think of another novel way of presenting yur initials whilst still using the infinity idea but with more of an twist? When I google image 'infinity symbol' there are lots of creative ways in which this has been interpreted, perhaps you can find some inspiration there?
  18. It looks to me like a mash up of files being called from the remote server and some files being called from a non-existent local directory. Certainly nothing wrong with the base code, bones is a fairly well regarded development theme. Best to do a broad search of all your files and replace any references to locally hosted files with the root directory locations. It mignt not solve everything but at least you will be able to call on all the required files.
  19. A mention of an NDA is useful if your aim is to drive your client away (because you no longer want to work with them). In my case I'm rarely that polite and I'll just cut straight to the chase and tell them quite plainly that I do not wish to work with them any more.
