December 14, 200718 yr The BBC are launching a new homepage for bbc.co.uk. What do you think? http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/beta/ Relevant BBC Blog Post as well. I like the header, and the retro clock (nice to see some 'personality' in the design!) and I like the boldness of the logo. You know it's the BBC. I feel as thought the text-size on the page is a step too big - seems clunky, I take the font-size down a step and it looks perfect. Your comments?
December 14, 200718 yr Yeh I've just seen it and the clock is just fab innit! Overall it's taking accessibility to the next stage which is always a good thing and the different display options are a great idea( albeit they need work!).
December 14, 200718 yr The text size is for accessibility, although I agree I'd prefer it to be a size smaller. Everything looks just a tad clunky at that size. Some of the colours are a bit harsh but oh well! It's better than what they have now.
December 14, 200718 yr Its alot better and i can move things around! But looking at the source.. its a bit code heavy they use an inline CSS style...
December 14, 200718 yr I likes it The clock is sooo cool, and its purple which is always a good in my books
December 15, 200718 yr Yeah, it's fabulous! Purple is a great choice, and grey suits everything really. The font size could have been smaller though. The clock is just superb!
December 15, 200718 yr It's a bit clichéd with all the bold colours and gradients and seems as if they've tried too hard to look cool. They're coming to the Web 2.0 party a bit late. Saying that the ability to customise the pages are quite nice and the analogue clock is funky and very retro.
December 15, 200718 yr Purple is going to be a new web color now. its coming back in alot of print design and now webdesign. a good mate of mine has his site in purple aswell http://ns3d.com/
December 17, 200718 yr Wow thats looking prety nice, i like the layout, the colors and the coding. Its very smooth. Its kinda like the MSN Homepage where you can edit the content and layout etc. Best Wishes Oliver
December 17, 200718 yr Author Oliver...that's one hell of a signature! Was just about to say the same -maybe he likes his HTML
December 18, 200718 yr That's the clock they used to have when I was a kid.....I think.... Anyone else here grow up in the 60's/70's? No thought not
December 19, 200718 yr why can i move modules around the page??? Only thing i don't like is the huge text and the grim and dark colours, other than that its cool
December 21, 200718 yr I've been using the page for the last few days and it has definitely grown on me. The idea for allowing you to move the boxes, is so that you if you prefer sport, you can move it to the top of your page for quicker access
December 21, 200718 yr That's the clock they used to have when I was a kid.....I think.... It's the same clock they used on the old news at 6 / 9 during the seventies and eighties, and also the internal test card that counts down between programs (we don't usually see it as viewers).
December 21, 200718 yr Well I was going to say too much purple for me, but it looks like the purple got the boot... lol
January 3, 200818 yr only one thing that is missing that I loved off the old version - the "most read" and "most emailed" sections on the right hand side. I used to use these a lot other than that, great, as you can change it so the text is always set to be smaller.
January 3, 200818 yr has anyone noticed the tabbed content part, with the colored tabs. it changes stylesheet as well as content, im not sure if its some kind of advance on ajax tabbed content or what.
January 3, 200818 yr Tricky898: I only ever use the "most read" and "most emailed" once I am on the site (the feed is on my homepage), so it sucks if this is gone. is it a setting somewhere?
January 3, 200818 yr Great new look for the BBC website, really diggin' it. I would, however, argue that the current font-size is fine? Wouldn't say that it was clunky at all, it's a great improvement from their previous look.
January 3, 200818 yr Tricky898: I only ever use the "most read" and "most emailed" once I am on the site (the feed is on my homepage), so it sucks if this is gone. is it a setting somewhere? I haven't found it yet, I'll keep searching Perhaps you can customize it to appear.
January 4, 200818 yr The new design looks really good, although anything would be better than the old design. The design actually looks good, and it seems a lot easier to navigate around the website. I agree the text size is a bit too big. I love the colour scheme on there, really good. I like the animations they use when one of the arrows is clicked on the page. Overall seems quite good.
