August 25, 200719 yr I agree, the navigation is very slick. And it's especially nice that they've made it accessible without any stylesheets or javascript. There are too many sites out there that have fancy effects like that that don't degrade gracefully.
August 25, 200719 yr I've been rethinking what I said about this site.... Have you actually looked at what they are selling or has the site and photography overwhelmed you? The hotel is nice (chic even) but not that amazing however the website is so good that I'm desperate to go and stay there... I'm a believer that in a commercial situation I would prefer a site that is functional rather than sexy but in this instance they have brought the two together successfully

September 9, 200718 yr Excellent use of Script.aculo.us / MooFX / JavaScript / whatever. Beautiful photo gallery as well, I love the way the photos scroll in the opposite direction to the rest of the content. Must be pretty bandwidth intense loading every page at once though (even though the content is pretty simple)... Disappointing that the site of the people who make is uses Flash
September 10, 200718 yr Author XHA: quite a lot of any pages content is taken up by the header/footer code and the CSS/Javascript files. Only a small portion is taken up by the actual page-specific content. In this case I reckon only about 30% of the overall page size is actually content. The rest is wrapping, styling, and scripting. I reckon this way actually reduces server load.
September 11, 200718 yr Very nice site design wise, looks and feels really slick. AJAX implies (indeed requires) a server side interaction. Here there is none. Not always. Although AJAX has been popularised because of it's async interaction capabilities with a server however a server isn't alway required. One useful function would be to load XHTML or XML files 'dynamically' using AJAX and so avoiding the page reload. I am not a big fan of AJAX as I see it as a bit of a gimick that saves such a minimal amount of time it sometimes isn't worth bothering!
September 11, 200718 yr Author there is still a server interaction. The scripting requests a page without the users implicit instruction. Just because there is no DB processing/scripting going on doesn't mean it is not AJAX.

April 24, 200818 yr Very tidy, very boutique...the site actually looks better than the hotel, it's a prison from the outside!! notbanksy - note the positioning of the hotel logo at the intersection of two thirds - towards bottom right corner. One criticism is it doesn't allow increase in text size. But I love the way they've used the two shades / tones of one colour changing across each page. I'd be considering something similar (in theroy) on a site i'm working on and this has convinced me it's possible. Neat, tidy, wel structured and organised. Impressive job.

April 24, 200818 yr Really like this site! The only thing for me was scrolling from image 16 to image 1 or vice versa in the gallery nearly made me throw up. Possibly a bit too quick. Overall great site!

April 25, 200818 yr I'm not quite sure how I feel about this site yet, I like the colour scheme and the design but don't like the way it has to float through all the pages to view the one you want so if you start with the first page and then click to view the contact page
