It has also come to our attention that some members are abusing this section, we kindly ask that if you are just posting to advertise and get links to your business that you do so in the Classified Advertising Section.. This is simply because a lot of our members are very keen to review and give opinions on a site, some give very detailed responses after spending some time on a site and its unfair to waste their time if you have no interest in what they have to say and are just here to publicise yourself of business.

If the administrator or moderators feel you have posted in the wrong section they will move the post to the correct place on the forum. Should they feel you are abusing the forum by spam advertising they will remove your post. If you feel your post was moved or removed by mistake please contact the administrator or one of the moderators.

WordPress doesn't, unless you actually host your site with them on WordPress.com (their commercial arm). Otherwise, WordPress is free. Wix, Weebly, Squarespace and the other easy website builders all charge subscription fees. It would cost you more and you'd get fewer options so we'd never recommend going with them.

There is much crossover between the two but web design is more focused on the frontend: what you see.
Web development is about the backend: how the website functions. That's as simple as I can make it.

    Sorted!
I have now stored my 200+ MySql columns in one JSON MySql column, which is faster to access. These are transferred to client side localStorage when the page first loads and the page is then built in JavaScript. The user's uploaded photos are also stored client side in IndexedDB during customization and will then be transferred to the server if a purchase is made, along with the variables. So the customization process with all the variables and photos is all handled client side now. I'm assuming this is the best way to do it but of course I'll have to wait and see how it all works when on a live server.

    Add this to your functions.php:
    function twittercard() { if(is_single() || is_page()) { $twitter_title = get_the_title(); $twitter_url = get_permalink(); $twitter_desc = get_the_excerpt(); $twitter_image = 'https://s2smark.com/tweetimage.jpg?rating=PG&size=75'; echo '<meta name="twitter:card" value="summary" />'; echo '<meta name="twitter:title" value="' . $twitter_title . '" />'; echo '<meta name="twitter:url" value="' . $twitter_url . '" />'; echo '<meta name="twitter:description" value="' . $twitter_desc . '" />'; echo '<meta name="twitter:image" value="' . $twitter_image . '" />'; echo '<meta name="twitter:creator" value="@s2smark" />'; } } add_action('wp_head', 'twittercard'); But you will need to change the twitter image URL to whatever you want to use.

Quite often with free hosting you get limits on how much bandwidth or storage you can use. You may not also get full support.

Jo 90 reacted to Rudi in New schema markup generator
    Hi all,
I am a little bit exited. I have developed a new schema markup generator, that other than all other that are out there at the moment, includes entities and their validation via an authority link. You can also (again first with this tool) mark up a webpage hierarchy.
At the moment it only is available for FAQ, HowTo and Website/Webpage.
Would be delighted if it helps you and if you let me know your thoughts. Also what kind of schema (product, event, recipe ...) should I work on to include next?
Just have a look at the launch blog post, it is all explained in there:

This could be a possibility too:

This one is more common in websites that are more than a few years old. Google has stopped obeying noindex rules in robots.txt files as of September 1, 2019.
If your robots.txt file was created before that date, or contains noindex instructions, you’re likely to see those pages indexed in Google’s search results.
The solution to this problem is to implement an alternative ‘noindex’ method.
One option is the robots meta tag, which you can add to the head of any web page you want to prevent Google from indexing.

Jo 90 reacted to Russ in Services pricing!
    Hi Niall,
My recommendation would be to set prices as day rates rather than per hour - I have done that and sometimes may charge a 1/2 day, but I don't charge by the hour.
If you charge by the day you can include various tasks within that day - from the list you have shown each can use different amounts of time, some much more than others.
Consider working with a day rate - in the UK it seems to range from £250-£750 per day across the services you want to offer. More complex programming requirements will be more, such as database work etc.
    Good luck with your business
    Russ

Jo 90 reacted to rowan.bradley in Avoiding Browser Security Warnings
Yes, now I can see it in both browsers. So I suppose the design is OK, and I can publish this in the belief that people will be able to see it without annoying error messages. As you say, I suppose it must have been something to do with having recently updated the web page.
The redirect is to allow me to use the web host that I use for my main web site (sylvesterbradley.org) but make the URL a lot shorter, which makes the QR code a lot smaller.
It may be redundant now, but it wasn't when I started this (some years ago).
    Thank you - Rowan

Nope, it was a scam indeed, you were right all along. I found those reddit posts:
    And also this: https://brightsanddesigns.com/web-designer-scam/
It is still a bit strange though. I mean why using a check for scamming people? My country doesn't even have that as an option so it'd be literally impossible for them to pay me that way. It may also be about personal data, I mean he was really pushy about giving him my address and name.
Anyway I owe you a big Thank You fisicx, cause I'd probably at least send them my personal info and maybe even fall for the whole thing if it wasn't for you pointing out the red flags.

Commodore PET was my first computer !! Record excitement every time I turned it on
The PET in a single case, which included, in addition to the computer itself (on a single board, like the KIM-1), also the power supply, keyboard, monitor, and even the recording drive. The keyboard was a "Chicklet" keyboard. The first model included 4K static memory, and firmware with Microsoft's BASIC interpreter - the first version of Microsoft for the 6502. The PET was the first of the “77 Trio” to be introduced and announced (January 77). But in practice, Commodore only started providing computers to customers towards the end of the year, after Sack and Apple Radio. PET did not have graphic capabilities in video, but its set of characters was the richest of the trio - in addition to supporting uppercase and lowercase letters (Apple and Sack Radio had only uppercase letters), also a set of 64 graphic symbols that allowed, for example, to draw tables, and even display Low-resolution graphics with the help of special "graphic characters".
Subsequent models saw changes, such as replacing the Chiklet keyboard with a standard keyboard, giving up the built-in recording drive, and increasing the memory volume.
The PET was offered for $ 600, and was also called PET / CBM, and sometimes CBM (acronym for Commodore Business Machines). Compared to the other two, its success in the American market was limited, while it was also successful in other markets, such as Canada and Europe.

The point in having this assigned to you as part of university is to implement it yourself. Even if someone could write it here, you would get very stuck trying to explain the code out if you were required to.
Multiple journeys could be plotted as an array of objects. This could then be used to plot onto a map using the latitude and longitude of each location.
[ { destination: 'Victoria', coordinates: { lat: '52.621780', lng: '-1.113930' } }, { destination: 'Oxford', coordinates: { lat: '51.514960', lng: '-0.144460' } } ] To actually plot these when you click, you need to store the coordinates so that you can query against a service like https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/directions-waypoints

I highly recommend you take the time to learn JS at even a fundamental level, or you will really struggle to understand any of this. Some resources that may help are (in order):

    https://frontendmasters.com/bootcamp
    https://frontendmasters.com/workshops/js-fundamentals-to-functional/ (paid with free trial)
    https://javascript30.com
If you go through each of these in full, you will have a significantly better understanding of Javascript and programming in general.
