  1. yes wordpress is one the best lightweight cms or blogging platform and it is very easy to learn and use, clients not frustrated using wordpress my portfolio is powered by wordpress
  2. hmmm I think for beginer is better photoshop, because there are a lot of tutorial websites, I don't know about fireworks much, moreover photoshop and fireworks are tools that helps you to express your imagination, it doesn't matter with wich you will work, you can create outstanding designs with both.
  3. maybe they have logo in other formats, jpg is not very useful maybe you could get *.eps *.tif, these formats support transparent background or maybe *.cdr ,but than you will need a corel draw program. But if there is no choice you can crop logo in photoshop with "pen tool", just make sure to select in top menu "Paths" (there are two buttons "shape layers" and "paths").
