  1. Amazon recently emailed customers with the following, which may be of use given how many of us use their services: As the busy shopping season approaches, stay informed with these tips to help recognise impersonation scams - when a scammer pretends to be a trusted company and reaches out to try to get access to sensitive information like personal or financial information, or Amazon account details. Tips to help stay safe: Always use the Amazon mobile app or website for all your shopping needs, including customer service, account changes, delivery tracking, and refund status. Remember, Amazon will never ask you to make payments or to provide payment information (including gift cards or wire transfers) for products or services over the phone. Consider setting up 2-step verification when available to your online accounts to help prevent unauthorised account access. You can set up 2-step verification at amazon.co.uk/2SV. Save time and stay secure using a passkey. It’s a safer way to sign in than using passwords and it works with the same face, fingerprint, or PIN you already use to unlock your device. Set up a passkey at amazon.co.uk/passkey. Scammers might try to create a sense of urgency to persuade you to do what they're asking. Be careful any time someone tries to convince you that you must act now. Example impersonation scam tactics that you could receive: Fake messages claiming to be about delivery or account issues. Third-party social media posts and ads with deals that seem too good to be true. Shop directly on our website or mobile app for authentic offers. Messages through unofficial channels asking for your password or payment information. Unfamiliar links asking you to verify your account credentials through fake or phishing websites. Amazon will never send emails asking customers to verify their account credentials. Unsolicited phone calls claiming to be from tech support or other agencies.
  2. @DSTW - The justice system is going to have its work cut out!
  3. Greetings, forum denizens! National Computer Security Day is on 30 November 2025. We're web designers, so using strong passwords, updating software, backing up data and enabling multi-factor authentication is part of our process - or should be! Criminals are getting more effective at causing trouble thanks to AI. You might be able to spot fakes quickly, but would your older relatives? Here's a video that might help them (and you) to discern what's real and what's not: What proactive steps are you going to take to protect your digital information?
  4. I use AI to waste time. What I want to use it for is important tasks - but it almost always gets it wrong, no matter how detailed the prompt or brief. The "slop" descriptor is apt. Almost all output shows me our jobs are safe as it comes off as cheap counterfeits.
  5. That's been my experience too. A colleague and I put the exact same prompt into ChatGPT 5 earlier this week and got conflicting answers. 😂 Perplexity is quite good for research.... but I spend almost as long checking the results and trying to help bots "get it right" that I'd have been better off doing things entirely myself.
  6. That's not a typo from a sloppy admin - it's the first message ever sent via ARPANET on 29 October 1969. That's 56 years ago for those of you counting! I find it a little strange that we (humanity) managed to get to the moon and back before the internet was able to transmit as much as "LO". Happy International Internet Day! PS - the first website is still live - https://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html
  7. A very cool, beginner-friendly resource for sorting out WordPress performance here: https://remkusdevries.com/how-i-diagnose-wordpress-performance-bottlenecks (no affiliation).
  8. Welcome! Some interesting... digital graffiti. I've not seen the like since I was in school 😅
  9. If this is for simply sharing family photos, not images to websites, then I've got to give a shout out to Piwigo as it is free and open-source. There's a mobile app for iOS and Android and it's relatively easy to get set up. Immich have just released v2.0 and is still FOSS. The UI looks a bit more attractive than Piwigo, especially if you're coming from Google Photos. You can use your server's GPU to do some of the smarter stuff that Google Photos does too. Hope that helps!
  10. In my circles I've seen a healthy overlap of devs that are also 3d printing enthusiasts. Never got into CAD or 3d printing myself - I've got too many expensive hobbies as it is 😅
  11. You don't mean combining them in something like Illustrator, do you? If so - that's absolutely possible! Open whatever you want to be the bottom layer, then place what you want to be the top layer in the file. Save it as a new file, export as .svg and you're done! Don't forget to use something like https://svgomg.net/ (not affiliated) to keep file sizes down once you're done.
  12. Nothing to add to fisicx sage advice other than to suggest a change of process going forwards to protect you from these kinds of things. Some customers/clients are just not serious, but that won't stop them from devouring as much of your time as they can get away with!

  15. You can probably do it on all the software in your list. The principles look like the vector artwork is positioned on different layers, and that these layers have a gradient blur applied to give a depth of field effect. Hope that helps. Feel free to share your results!
  16. Awesome! I used a Lumix S5 with the S 50mm f1.8 for my last paid gig and it was brilliant! Took me a while to get used to the autofocus settings - and it really didn't do a great job when it came to video - but the stills were incredible! The control layout and ergonomics were really good as well. The only other body that's come close in comfort is Fujifilm XS20, which I'm pretty sure was made for my hands 😂
  17. Welcome to Web Designer Forum! Exciting stuff - feel free to share the link to your website when you're ready 😁 What gear did you go for? I'm enjoying my Sony APSC mirrorlesses (A6700 & ZV-E10) but am feeling the call of full frame - especially with the Zeiss 55mm f1.8
  18. There's value in becoming well versed in both, but the utility depends heavily on the type of business you'd be developing for. Expanding on what @fisicx mentioned; people don't search for plumbers, local restaurants and socks using an app store. They use search engines, which means websites are the first point of contact. If a site is unusable then you lose a potential customer. There's also an element of app fatigue for most users. Having to give it a ton of personal info before you can do what you want to, and being sent notifications and emails that you probably don't want is no substitute for a guest checkout. PS - did you get AI to help you write that post?
  19. My goal for next year is to drop so many hints I get fed for a week by my clients 🫃
  20. Hi, everyone! The tasty new logo is for Take Your Webmaster to Lunch Day, which is on the 6th of July each year. Thomas Roy and Ruth Roy of Wellcat created this 'holiday' in 2003, which encourages people to: Webmasters have a lot on their plates with coding, SEO, traffic monitoring, server management and everything else that goes into keep sites online. Hopefully there'll be something nice on the menu from your clients this year. Feel free to share any gifts, thank you notes, shoutouts etc in this thread 😁 #TakeYourWebmasterToLunchDay
  21. Welcome to the forum 😁 Interesting choice of tool for the job - building entirely on a phone definitely seems like a challenge! Would it be cheating to use something like Dex or Android Desktop?
  22. What shocked me was how many folks said they were willing to shell out more for green solutions. 67% (35% + 32%) being up for paying moderately more to significantly more is wild! I'm glad - but didn't realise I was that out of touch 🤣
  23. Jeff Robbin pretty much confirms your guess: “AI and machine learning are a core part of what makes Apple’s services feel so personal and intuitive to our users around the world. They love the ease and simplicity that intelligent features like natural language search and App Store review summaries have brought, and we’re excited to continue adding thoughtful, tailored experiences to Apple’s services — including AutoMix, which mixes songs like a DJ in Apple Music, the option to use Enhance Dialogue to isolate voices and make them sound clearer in Apple Podcasts, and more.”
  24. Hello! 20i have just published a study on green energy and internet services: https://www.20i.com/green-survey They asked some interesting questions: Would you pay more for a greener tool or service? How important is sustainability compared with price and features? Have you ever avoided a tool or service due to environmental concerns? What are your thoughts? And what do your customers say? I didn’t expect 68% of people to say they actively consider the environmental impact of the digital tools and services they use! .image-container { background-color: #ebdfcf; display: inline-block; } .image-container { background-color: #ebdfcf; display: inline-block; }
