I prefer to use the brand google page to post new updates regularly and use the profile page foe more personal updates.Brand page should be considered as the first priority.

1) Both is fine. I assume both pages are on G+? Even so, thats fine.

2) Don't remove any markup structure at all from any website. Just because Google has removed the images and any associated rich snippet from the SERPs, it doesn't mean they have removed authorship completely. To be honest, you should be using as much structured data as possible, that includes highlighting the authors, contributors and publishers of a website.

If your clients were posting their for just SEO benefit, then they should just stop (I know you don't say they do, I just wanted to point that out). Likewise with social media channels in general. However, I strongly suggest a social campaign that focuses on each individual social network. G+ is an extremely powerful community and active community beyond US-based SEOs. Even beyond that, there is nothing wrong with community building across seas.

but I suspect they were just posting for postings sake, instead of using the network to their full advantage, as many clients do.

Barry530 reacted to Tor in Custom PC website
Hey,

I would like to start a website for my custom PC business. I am happy
designing the front page, ect, but I don't know where to start with the store.
The idea is that there is a simple page, minimalist, flat design, with several
pre spec'd computers, sorted in to categories: Gaming, extreme gaming,
professional, home / office, advanced home / office. Once you have chosen a
computer, an overlay is presented on the screen roughly like
this: from there you can buy, or customise choosing optional extras and then paying.

That is a brief plan, I can go into much more detail if necessary.
Something I forgot to mention is that for anything with the exception of,
extreme gaming and professional on the overlay, instead of specs, will be the
typical usage, for example: (specs viewable at drop down)
Internet & E-Mail Watching Movies/TV Occasional Light Gaming Writing Documents/Burning DVD's Listening to Music I don't really know how to get started on this, I have started using
froont.com, but other than that: Who do I need to contact, who should I hire,
or can I do this myself?

Thank you,
Tor

These updates are a mesurement of your site content. If it is natural it is ok. But if you stuff your content with keywords, you do not have any hopes of survival from the clutches of Panda.

I'm a sceptic on social media, it's ok for some clients but pointless for others, it depends on your niche / service / product. When I say 'social media' i'm talking about making facebook pages, circles, linked in shoulder rubbing and the like - social sharing options should always be on a website to give the user the option to send your webpage to a friend.

There are only (IMO) 2 types of social media users; those who are real individuals with interests (consumers) and those who make accounts on the soul basis of trying to get business / leads etc (B2B) - you do however get hybrids but this is just generalisation.

But here's what I find is the big difference ... lets say Pintrest. A real social user will collate boards from their true likes etc and give great insight. Take my wifes account, full of primary teaching ideas, cooking, sewing and pretty shoes with the widest variety of content sources from all over the web. This vs say a wedding dress maker who only shares certain brands and products from their own shop.

The point is I think more 'real' people will follow another person with similar ideas and likes, from humour to the car they drive (or would love to drive). I got a Samsung phone but don't follow Samsung; I follow the daily mash but not the times ... fickle aren't we

So trying to use it for 'website promotion for traffic' is a little short sighted. With social share options your users will do that for you, if it's worth sharing.

Edit: Forgot to say how I use the legendary 'social media' ... well I don't but some of my clients I recommended they connect and it's working ok. For example one client is a tuning specialist who posts the latest projects on facebook etc plus all the shenanigans from the garage including when one mechanic left something switched on and covered the entire floor under litres of used engine oil. They have quite a few followers now from actual local customers to global fans of performance cars.

But then we have to ask the question do they actually 'like' you? It's a bit like email marketing, sure you can spam the hell out of every email you stumble across but the success will be minimal vs a small collection of email addresses of people who have registered interest. Just a thought

I mainly use social media for promotion, branding and generating traffic to my website. At first we can only generate traffic but once we analyze the relevant audience, then the traffic can be converted into revenue and customers.

Depends on:

Industry
Competition
Budget
Site Structure
Current visibility
Content plan (more products added?)
What aspects will be UGC (user generated content)
The goals

Thats for the SEO question.

Note: I posted this in another thread, but I thought it might be useful to everyone as a single post. It will be much easier to find that way.
I'm a big fan of learning through books, so I will share with you some of my recommended titles on web development.

Web design theory
The Priciples of Beautiful Web Design - This book will teach you all the basic theory of design, in relation to web design. You'll learn how to lay solid foundations to a website, that will allow you to create 'sound' designs, way before you even think about how it is going to look.

HTML
HTML 4 For The World Wide Web - This book was one of the first I bought on the subject, over 8 years ago now! It covered the basics of HTML, and after about a week I was confident at writing up, and understanding, my very own website from scratch. I'm not sure this book is being published any more, so you might need to find something similar.

CSS
I taught myself CSS from practice, tutorials and articles online, but I have, and highly recommend the following CSS reference book: The Ultimate CSS Reference

Javascript
Javascript - The Definitive Guide - The book on Javascript. It covers absolutely everything you could possibly want to know, and it is heavy to boot!

Javascript Phrasebook - Tiny book, packed full of snippets of code for various problems.

PHP/MySQL
PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites - This was my first book on PHP, and it lays the groundwork for you to create some simple scripts, using databases.

PHP & MySQL Bible - Extremely thick book, covers most of PHP. Is a great reference book.

PHP Cookbook - Packed to the brim with excellent and useful snippets of code, for common coding problems. I constantly find myself going back to this book for advice.

PHP and MySQL Phrasebook - Tiny little book, full of snippets of code. It's a great thing to keep at arms reach.

PHP 5 Objects, Patterns, and Practice - This is quite a complex and laborious read, but it will help you step into more advanced coding practices, such as Object Oriented Programming (OOP), and Patterns.

I could recommend a tonne more; my bookshelf actually fell off once because of the amount of web development books! What I've suggested here will be more than adequate for beginning, though.

I just thought it would be interesting to see how difficult everyone thinks On-Page SEO compared to Off-Page SEO out of 10.

For example

On-Page SEO: 5/10
Off-Page SEO: 5/10

(By the way this is an example and not what I actually think)

Hey guys. Thanks for the replies. I've checked my add ons and there doesn't seem to be anything untoward although FF does freeze so I can't scroll or select anything on my add ons page. This has happened to me before so I deleted FF but that was a year and a half or so ago so I think I'll do a malware check as you suggested.

Thanks!

Agree with BlueDreamer.

That looks like a toolbar that has been added somehow.

If you click on the firefox menu (top left) if you're using windows (where the three dots are) I don't know about the mac.

Then check the addon's that are installed...

The 2nd image has a strange looking toolbar (the blue buttons), that could suggest you have some malware or have (accidently) installed something elsewhere.

I'd suggest running a malware scan and removing any odd looking FF extensions. Might also be worth uninstalling Firfox and your profile data and strating afresh.
