WooCommerce for me. I've used it since it forked from Jigoshop. It's by far the most user friendly for the end user (IMO) and with some web dev skills you can customise it into pretty much anything you need it to be.

I've been using Freeagent for 3+ years - can't live without it. Prompt replies to any support issues when you need it, but runs pretty smoothly most of the time.

I don't do 'signed' contracts, instead I give them my terms and request 50% before starting work, then final 50% before site goes live. Never had any problems like this. It also helps in 'sensitive' situations like this or working with friends, etc. Hope you get it sorted.

I used to use WP e-Commerce and it drove me insane with problems... Then along came WooCommerce and now peace is restored! It's SO SO SO easy to use and customise, and most importantly is a breeze for your clients to use. Give it a quick look - you might find it quicker and easier to cut your losses with WPEC and move to WC

You should never have 777 permissions on a live website. you need to fix the problem and use something like 755 or 775. the problem is most likely ownership of the directory and you can change that by using CHOWN (via SSH) to CHange OWNership to the webuser and group. http://www.linfo.org/chown.html

If more 3 or more quotes in a row get rejected, then lower your rates. If you get 3 or more jobs without query on the price, put your rates up.

I always give people 10% of the project total for all referrals - 10% isn't a huge amount off the total considering you may not have had the work without the referral and if the job is say £2000, then £200 in their pocket is a nice little bonus and they're likely to do it again I only pay up once the initial invoice (deposit) has been paid and the job has started.

There are a number of factors that affect the UK SERPS including domain, IP and page content (UK telephone numbers, address, etc) So if you aren't using a .co.uk (or .org.uk, etc) then ensure the IP address of the server is UK based and the content includes a UK phone number (01XX or 02XX numbers rather than 0845, etc) and UK address (including 'UK' in it) will usually help. However, it's not the biggest factor as I've seen plenty of non-UK IPs and non-UK domains ranking over very 'UK' websites because of much better content and quality backlinks. Hope this helps!

I personally think RWD is 'right now' and it's not just about having a single website for all devices, there are other benefits such as 'mobile first' - a methodology that helps fine tune the functionality of the site, eliminating unnecessary clutter in the user's experience across all devices. And as for the future, this industry changes far to quickly to be have a definitive right or wrong way of doing something, let alone predict what that might be!
