NOCK reacted to Mark Berg in what about my own privacy? There are several options available for ensuring privacy when creating a website.
One option is to use a service like Wix or other web hosting platforms that allow you to set up a website without buying a domain name, allowing you to avoid having your private information exposed in the WHOIS registry. Additionally, you can block traffic from EU countries on your website so that you remain compliant with GDPR regulations.
You can also register a domain anonymously using services such as Namecheap’s Domain Privacy Protection. This will hide your contact information from the public WHOIS database, meaning your personal information is kept private.
Finally, you can also look into creating a separate company or entity with its own data controller and obtain

NOCK reacted to BlueDreamer in Cache issue i ChromeI thought only bot farms used Chrome 🤣
I get this all the time with clients who insist on using Chrome. When you clear history/cache Chrome defaults to only clearing the last hours worth so set that to "everything" and retest.
If you use a different browser do you get the same problem?
Can you test on a different machine with a clean Chrome install?
Chrome tries to hang onto your history as much as possible by design, it's all part of Googles surveillance system. If everyone cleared their browsing history regularly then Google would get much less data to use to target ads at you.

Got an email (not from anyone here - I hope). Not a direct quote but the jist of it is as follows....
"I want you to build for me a website. I want it to look like this. And I want you to include in your price cost of hosting."
After I sent him the quote (not including hosting but included an estimate of what hosting would be paid directly to the host)....
"Ok. Sounds good. I'll send you $3350. You can keep $350 and send $3000 to my graphic designer for the content and logo. Ok?"
My reply. "Um, No thanks. Not how I do business. Thank you. ".
Sound familiar to anyone?

NOCK reacted to rbrtsmith in In need of some practice projectsUgh the system isn't designed to keep you down, that's why there's so many stories of people who've risen up and made a success of themselves. We have fantastic opportunities in this country, better then we've ever had historically with easy access to the world's information. Do with it what you will.
You get out of life what you put into it. I've never understood why people want to jump to the reward without putting in the hard work and effort.
You have to accept competition in life because if anything is worth getting you can bet there will be more than just yourself wanting it. This isn't a designed system, it's basic human nature.
I really do feel for those that are held back because of health issues, or live in a country that doesn't afford an education and opportunity like we do here. I think this is why so many who immigrate here from worn torn countries or those with extreme poverty do so well - because they see it as the opportunity of a lifetime and they grab the bull by both horns.
Theo Paphitis (From Dragon's Den) couldn't write a word of English and had to get help to write his first job application upon moving to the UK. Fast forward about 10 years and he was wildly successful - and all due to hard work and perseverance.
My Uncle moved here from Iran with nothing, zero education to escape persecution. He landed a job washing dishes. About 15 years later, after working 60 hour weeks and doing everything in his power to learn and get better at his job — became the restaurant manager and now owns a company importing and distributing various Italian and Iranian oils and spices etc.
There's loads of similar stories of people facing far worse hardships than you or I. Unless you have a health problem, family issues (caring for somebody full time for example) then there's really no excuse, if you're unhappy with where you're at then you can only blame yourself and the decisions you've made.
What happens in the next 10 and beyond years is largely down to the choices you make… Do you keep on procrastinating; blaming the system which leads to nowhere? or do you accept where you're at and formulate a plan to move forwards?

NOCK reacted to Jack in UK web courses? They produce a lot of courses each year now so not all of them get an update, unless they really need it. Even so, most are just fundamentals at beginner stage and don't really change from year to year.

NOCK reacted to rbrtsmith in Is the system keeping me from succeeding?Simple answer No.
I am honestly sick and tired of people blaming the system for their own shortcomings and they need a kick up the proverbial.
We have amazing freedoms in this country that few outside get to experience. Unless there's a good medical reason or similar there s no reason why you can't make a success of yourself. Nobody has a right to be successful it has to be earned and by being born in the UK we all have that opportunity. If you lived in a place like Syria then yes you're up against it. In the UK people at large have the choice to control their own success, some expect it to be handed to them and when that doesn't happen they often blame others or "the system".
If you want success you have to go out and earn it. You have to work on self improvement and improve yourself, fix weaknesses because if you don't nobody else will.

NOCK reacted to rbrtsmith in Do people here work from home now?An update for me and a change of heart - I've now gotten used to remote working and actually quite happy to never return to the office. You do miss out on the social interaction however there's a number of benefits to WFH
Save money on travel costs Company I work for saves on office costs which can be spent elsewhere e.g. training, social events etc Save time from travelling, I gain about an hour per day I get to expense my broadband costs less people travelling is better for the environment and if I need to nip out the roads are a bit quieter -

NOCK reacted to Jack in How did you manage to pick up coding?Everyone needs to look things up. Being able to review documentation and sources like MDN is very important, but if that's how you want to learn to code entirely then I think that's a really bad approach. If you're going to listen to anyone it should be @rbrtsmith. He has already achieved what you're trying to do, works at a really good company, with the best team of devs in his area. I have learned tonnes from him, and you're making a mistake ignoring his advice over some random person on Quora.

NOCK reacted to BrowserBugs in Do a lot of web developers come from graduates in Electrical Engineering + Computer science?Dude, this is a web design forum, many of your questions are broad life and career ones, it's not a personal attack. We can assist you with pretty much most language questions, feedback on design or help with breaking down a problem and suggesting ways to approach it if you post how far you've got and what the problem is.
"Do a lot of web developers come from graduates in Electrical Engineering + Computer science?". My answer, not sure, know a couple with CS degrees but never met an ex electrical engineer working in the industry as of yet, or I might have but they never said.

I'm pretty sure it was https://northcoders.com. I very briefly met their new hire last time I was in Manchester and everyone seemed to be impressed with how quickly they picked up new concepts and hit the ground running. That's an important quality companies are looking for, it's extremely common you will be using some technology you haven't had experience with before with each new job, and it's even more overwhelming for beginners.
I'd say anyone looking to get into a bootcamp should be cautious and do a lot of research, because not all bootcamps are equal in quality. Some like Northcoders have proven themselves to be worthwhile, but a lot out there are purely out to make money and do little to help you get a job. The market is flooded right now and it's important to pick a good one. In the US the two big ones are Hack Reactor and Codesmith, Will from Codesmith actually teaches on Frontend Masters and he's probably the best teacher on there.

NOCK reacted to fisicx in Inherited Website Need Speed HelpSort out the images.
There are 8.8Mb of images in the homepage slider. Bin the slider (because it adds no value) and you will then have a fast site.
The content of the site is boring and dire and not lead generating. The calls to action are weak and blog mostly pointless. There are no trustmarks, citations, case studies or testimonials. And it doesn't work at all well on a small screen.
Apart from that it's fine!
