  1. Do not nest tags (div inside div inside div) <ul> <li class="current_page_item"><a href="index.html">Home</a></li> <li> <a href="products.html">Products</a> <ul> <li><a href="products.html">Prod 1</a></li> <li><a href="products.html">Prod 2</a></li> <li><a href="products.html">Prod 3</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="accessories.html">Accessories</a></li> <li><a href="software.html">Software</a></li> <li><a href="support.html">Support</a></li> <li><a href="contact.html">Contact Us</a></li> </ul> Then use CSS to adjust positions, change visuals and create hover effects
  2. The below code is a snippet from what I use on my site to change fade in and out between id's at a specific number of intervals. It doesn't change the src of an image, but is easily done as well. This should give you the basis for what you need though. If you need more I can event comment the code for you explaining what each line does. This of course needs the jquery library. <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function() { var InfiniteRotator = { init: function() { var initialDelay = 2000; var initialFade = 3000; var intTime = 10000; var fadeTime = 2000; var currentItem = 1; var numberOfItems = 2; setTimeout(function() {$('#id'+currentItem).fadeIn(initialFade);}, initialDelay); var infiniteLoop = setInterval(function(){ $('#promo'+currentItem).fadeOut(fadeTime); if (currentItem == numberOfItems) {currentItem = 1;} else {currentItem++;} setTimeout(function() {$('#id'+currentItem).fadeIn(fadeTime);}, fadeTime); }, intTime); } }; InfiniteRotator.init(); }); </script>
  3. I agree with that as well. One must rely on real reviews (word of mouth) and their own personal experience to be able to evaluate a company's worth.
  4. Exactly, my point. IMHO, quality supersedes quantity any day.
  5. I see. I would us the one liner.
  6. He's not trying to shuffle the order of the comments, but the display. He wishes to display a random comment on each pageload.
  7. You're not going to get a well managed vps for 15/mo. I would expect a minimum for the smallest vps to be around 25.
  8. I understand that you are still set to have a meeting with your client about the direction to take, but please do keep in mind that your code is very important. I just took a glance and wanted to point out a few things: 1) No need to nest so many divs 2) utilize css positioning/margins/padding to acquire proper element placement 3) don't use javascript for mouseover styling, instead use css (a:hover/img:hover/a:hover > img) 4) consort with your client to benefits AND negatives to using html5
  9. I VPS does not indicate that you will need to manage the server via command line; just ensure the vps you purchase is managed so if any problems arise you have your provider to handle the issue. If you choose to stay with cPanel what you'll have is WHM (web host manager) which is cPanel's backend. WHM is a control panel that allows you to create website accounts. cPanel/WHM is just one example, but most of the time you'll have a control panel.
  10. I just wanted to reiterate the difference between the two.
  11. http://www.w3schools.com/css3/
  12. I would use php and yes you can use an external list. just place an include within the php code: // page.php <?php include("comments.php"); print $comments[rand(0,count($comments))]; ?> // comments.php: <?php $comments = array( 'Example 1', 'Example 2', 'Example 3', 'Example 4', 'Example 5' ); ?>
  13. I recommend using css3 rounded borders instead of images for the buttons, plus you can get some nice hover affects. You'll have trouble replicating the font because not all users will have that font installed, but I would still change to css to lessen your http requests.
  14. VPS would be the way to go, considering you'll want to ensure proper room for expansion. I don't think you'll find a shared host that does not monitor server resource usage and restrict so. I can guarantee that all the hosts offering everything for nothing do this to extreme levels of restriction.
  15. I'm sure many youtube fanatics would but I wouldn't. I just dont use it that often.
  16. Nullified replied to RNR's topic in Graphic Design Forum
As LoveLock said I would try to make the gap between the letter (little less) the same as the gap between the R's and the edge of the circle (little more). It looks nice, but personally I would add some kind of circular stripe diagonally across the logo. I'm not a graphic designer though, just giving some input.
  17. Interesting find. thanks for sharing.
  18. If the site is going to have more dynamic content in the future I would suggest a db, however if it's small list try a php array: $comments = array( 'Example 1', 'Example 2', 'Example 3', 'Example 4', 'Example 5' ); print $comments[rand(0,count($comments))];
  19. Please tell me you are not using dreamweaver design view or have dreamweaver build the page based off your slices.
  20. you guys are making this so much more difficult than it is foreach ($array as $data) with array('val1','val2','val2') foreach ($array as $k=>$v) with array ('k1'=>'v1','k2'=>'v2','k3'=>'v3')
  21. You could use to arrows (float them left and right with css) and have jquery animate the position left css attr as needed for the scrolling. take a look at jquery .animate
  22. write your own code.... or just remove the name attribute.
