Can anybody point me in the direction of a good plugin that will do something like the marketplace select (top left) on ThemeForest?

I have a few videos to put online for a client. I'm a bit unsure about hosting them on my server as they are quite big (380mb originally and I've got the one I've compressed down to 130mb) and I'm worried about how much bandwidth it will use. I've looked at some services like Vimeo and YouTube that I can upload the video to and I was wondering if anybody knew any other services like this that I could use? The alternative would be to put a limit on their BW so the site is taken offline if they use too much.

I wouldn't stick to one method. I'd select a method based on what I need to do at the time. In the first post you mentioned adding the shadow to an images with different dimensions that would just about rule out doing it with images (unless you create a different image for each size) so I would go with either the CSS or javascript (jQuery, MooTools etc). I'm not sure that all modern browsers support the CSS shadows at the minute so for flexibility and support I would probably go for the javascript option in your case.

At the minute when you go to your site it redirects you to http://www.numyspace.co.uk/~unn_t011283/nubc/index.html but keeps the other URL in the address bar. This is called web forwarding. Like HogIT said, you need to buy some webspace and point your domain name servers at the hosts server.

I depends who I'm talking to really. Normally I would say web designer because it's easier than having to explain what a developer does. But my official title is IT/ICT software systems engineer.

Is it against the site rules to say which marketplaces you use most? It would be interesting to know. The majority of my work at the minute is through word of mouth which suits me for now as I'm only really interested in local work.

I asked about this but they sent me a guide and then said it might work but it might not so I don't really want to try it on a server with my clients sites on.

I think I currently pay about £30 a month so somewhere around that.

I don't actively say it's xxx plus xxx for PayPal fees, I just make sure the fees are taken into account in the original quote, although the majority of my clients are local so I don't use PayPal a lot.

I'm considering switching web host, currently I have a VPS with 1and1 and although I've had no problems with them my server isn't running PHP 5.2 and I need it to. I'm a web developer and I host my clients sites on this server so ideally I'd like some sort of uptime guarantee. My basic specs are: PHP 5.2+ VPS (with SSH access) 20gb + space 100gb + bandwidth Some sort of uptime guarantee UK based phone & email support My current server runs plesk but I also have experience with WHM. Also I'd like to know how much work it will be for me to move my current sites across (I currently have about 5, mostly wordpress sites).

For PCs, I've always thought Nod/Eset was the best as someone mentioned before. Microsoft have also released their own software that you can use for free if you have a valid version of Windows, it's called Microsoft Security Essentials.

I'd keep away from opening it in Dreamweaver, it's a pretty resource intensive program even without huge files. I definitely wouldn't try to display it to a user without a database behind it. If you saved it as a csv file and then used phpmyadmin to import it then that should work. Then you could use something like flexigrid to display it. I've had that working with a lot more records than 13,000.

You can't really trust errors to do with js thrown by IE. Normally FireBug in FireFox will give a better explanation of the error, have you tried that?

I'm looking for a jQuery plugin but I'm not sure what it would be called so I was hoping someone will have come across something similar. Basically when I rollover a div I want a menu to slide in with a link on. Any ideas?

Yeah, amember seems to be the popular one. It doesn't support upgrading/downgrading accounts though so you are better off sticking with a single plan if you use it. To be fair though, you're better off sticking with one plan anyway. Upgrades are a nightmare however you do them!

Just watch how many extra modules and images you use and make sure you check the site on a few different computers with different internet connections if you can.

You could also try Misco.co.uk they seem to be cheapest for most computer things.

I did a site for a guy when I was at college. He had a script that was really good. It asked the user some questions and then worked out which was the best phone & deal for them. Then it took them to the sellers site and he just got his commission, he didn't even have to collect any user information at all and he made a fortune! I cant remember what the script was called but I do remember it was written in ASP.NET. Try looking on hotscripts.com, he probably got it from there.

No. You will need access to some sort of control panel to access MySQL. Alternativley you could use something like Navicat but you will still need the username and password for their MySQL installation. Once you have a database with a username and password to access it. You just upload the files and run the installation and WP will do the rest.
