I'm having a problem in that my domain name as www.polyrowing.co.uk is all that displays in the browsers address bar.

On the home page it is displayed in the address bar as www.polyroing.co.uk as I would expect. But then if I click throught to the "About Us" page for example I would expect the address in the address bar to then display www.polyrowing.co.uk/about.html but it remains as only www.polyrowing.co.uk.

 

I asked for support from my domain host and all I could get out of them was...

 

"Using web forwarding this is all that will happen, if you wish to show the full path you would need your domain name to be attached to the space like a domain is attached to a 123-reg web hosting package."

 

Can anyone tell me what this mean and how I can do this?

They mean you need to buy some webspace on a server and point your domain name (via nameserver settings) to that server.

 

As your host has said using web-forwarding has caused the problem you are experiencing.

At the minute when you go to your site it redirects you to http://www.numyspace.co.uk/~unn_t011283/nubc/index.html but keeps the other URL in the address bar. This is called web forwarding.

 

Like HogIT said, you need to buy some webspace and point your domain name servers at the hosts server.

I understand how it works a bit more now. I'm currently using webspace given to me by my university and didn't understand there was a difforence between web forwarding and having a domain name associated with webspace.

No offence intended here, but you say your an intermediate level web developer.

 

This is a really basic thing and the support department you contacted gave you the correct answer from the off.

 

You can even see where your links are going too by hovering over them:

 

E.g. hover over the events button shows the link http://www.numyspace.co.uk/~unn_t011283/nubc/events.html

 

No offence taken, I have experience in hosting compared to other things but point taken, I humbly demote to beginner.
