  1. I would add that you really should search for the targeted key term in an exact match. That way you will have a more accurate reflection of what the searches for that exact keyword are. Example: Broadband Help = 22100 on broad in Feb; 590 on exact for Feb.
  2. Try http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ Its from the same guys at SEOMoz
  3. You could give your own unique take on events or news in the world of web design. What does it mean if... At first its just a case of getting some quality posts in there so it doesn't look to new and sparce (like my new site at the mo!!)
  4. If you blog regularly then you can get additional pages indexed quite quickly. It is an excellent chance to target longer tail keywords and porvide links to the money pages of your site. Once you have written your blog it can then be syndicated to many social media sites quickly with a press of a button (if you have social bookmarking tabs)
  5. Hi Snoogins, Whilst the redirect works it may not pass all the link juice to the correct (canonical) URL. So for example, you have a link in your profile above without the www's included. It is best to make sure your linking structure is consistent around your site and from any external links. That will avoid any wastage of link juice! Tim
  6. There are a few points to remember here. As Martin says make sure you have the correct geo location settings. Also having the physical address on the site can help. If you are targeting UK search engines with a .com you can set this via Webmaster Tools (the default is USA). If you are targeting US with a .co.uk then you need to host int he US ideally and if you have a .com and wish to target UK then you are best to change to a UK host. Also, if you want to target both UK and USA you could always make the sites unique and target both using the techniques described in this thread for each site. I have a site with both the .co.uk and .com on the first page for a competitive keyword in Google UK, and guess what the .co.uk beats the .com!! (UK host, UK Location settings and physical address on site) I hope this helps.
  7. Also, add some anchor text links around your site. So Add links from other pages linking to the Home page using variations of the Targeted key terms. e.g. "Glasgow Web Design" links to the Home page. Also get an HTML sitemap and either remove the tiny text in the footer or make it bigger. SE's don't like the little text much.
  8. All these things are valid, Getting Highly Relevant links from Authority Sites is the best tip. This only describes the desired result not the process. I think if you write world class copy then offer it to authority bloggers and web masters you may just get those links. Think what the website owner might like you to write for them.
  9. Congratulations. There are some interesting figures concerning ranking position and traffic share. Position ten gets rough 14 times less traffic than position one! I don't know the stats for pages two onwards, I'm guessing not much. Keep up the good work and hopefully you will see improved traffic. I would still urge you to target more descriptive keywords that describe your services, such as CMS Website Design or Ecommerce Website Design as these are closer to the buying end of the sales funnel.
  10. Hi, Google will often display the description that it feels is most relevant even when you have set Meta descriptions. However, in your case it is because this is the text Google has for your site in their directory which in turn came from DMOZ! Search for "Offers custom web and graphic design solutions for professionals, small businesses and organisations. Based in Plymouth, Devon, UK" in the quote and you will see what I mean.. Tim
  11. I've got you as position 6. Are you logged into Google Account when you are checking this?
  12. Based on your Home page Meta Titles: If you are trying rank for "Jake Apperly" not long at all. If you are trying to rank for "Poker" Good Luck!!
  13. Hi, There is also a filter you can add to Google Analytics ( you do use Google Analytics right?!) that will show you what page your keywords that bring you traffic are on. Search for Google Analytics + Rankings Filter and you should find instructions there.
  14. Hi, Article Submission is indeed a good tip. I wrote an article on this recently..... Link Building Through Content Distribution I hope you find it useful. Tim
  15. This post has caused a stir hey! The thing is, if you run a directory you will get spam as you have experienced. Its a shame, especially as you have spent years getting it right. The trouble is for these companies they can tell a client they have gained 500 links instead of spending a day getting 3 very strong links. Unfortunately, these guys see your site as an opportunity. It's a bit like having a high street shop selling magazines and asking only those who want to buy and not browse can come in when its pretty rainy outside, you can put the sign up but they will still come in! You are of course much better off taking a more measured approach to link building. Creating something that people actually want to link to in your niche is a good start. On a site of mine I added a nice little tool and told other web masters about it. If they don't want the bother of recreating it they will just link to mine. You can do this with great informative copy too. HOWEVER, these guys will still spam because as of today, it still helps the larger tapestry of link authority and they do muddy the waters for everyone else who does ethical link building.
  16. You need to further examine these figures too. Which pages are your best landing pages. Sometimes your service offering requires the visitor to call you so they will only visit that page of the contact number is displayed. This will increase the bounce rate, but looking at the top landing pages may help discover this. Also what keywords are the visitors reaching your site with? If it is your company name then you will get very low bounce rate. When you start to get rankings for your key terms I would expect the bounce rate to lower because people will respond differently to your site. I guess the answer for me is, look at other factors before deciding whether the bounce rate is good or not.
  17. Hi Just to let you know, your site still appears for the non www version. Try this article http://www.smartlabsoftware.com/howto/redirect-index-page.htm You also have the /index.pho version of the Home page so the above link will help with that too. This is important to fix as people may link to either version and will therefore split your link juice... Tim
  18. The reason you are not ranking anywhere for your terms and your contact us pages beats it is that you have no links to this site. Normally the home page has the majority of links and therefore link authority and will rank above most pages of your site. In your case the contact pages is both more relevant and equally as powerful, er sorry, I mean weak! You had better get some links. If I was you I would experiment and start off purely by content distribution, articles etc
  19. Good Luck! Just create good quality content and get some links to it from all over the web. Make sure the keywords that you have researched and know get traffic are in the page title and on the page a few times. That's a start. Type in SEO Fast Start and you should find a great article step by step process of SEO
  20. I would get a link to this page from the Home page using this term. Then get a HTML sitemap too. You desperately need a way to navigate to this page. Maybe Google can't crawl to it either?
  21. The best bit of advice was to separate the page as you would a normal document. One Main Heading <h1> Text Several Sub-headings <h2> <h3> etc text Throw some bullet points in there if there are not going to be images. Its easier to scan read that way. Tim
  22. Hi, The others that I use are propellor.com and wirefan.com. You can also use Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com for content distribution.
  23. Paid links are not allowed (according to Googles T's and C's) Get links from a variety of sources and remember links that look like they were naturally created from a site that is relevant to yours is the way forward.
  24. Links, links and more links!! The more routes back to your website form a variety of sources the better. This will lead the spiders to your site from all over the place.
  25. Here here. Well said Wizely. Wizely by name....
