Yeah, trying to cheat a bit as don't really have the time to wade through a degrees worth of docs. From searching online it doesn't look there's any quick fix, to the docs it is

I've recently taken on a new site built in .net, as a php developer I'm fumbling my way through it a bit. But basically they have a job vacancies section which a job site (I won't name them) has started posting jobs from. We don't what that to happen as the volume and calibra of people applying isn't great. Thing is, I can't work out whether their taking the jobs from a feed, which is what I'd expect to see from a PHP site or some other method. I have tried the htaccess method you suggested, so we'll see how that works. Thanks for the info.

I need to block a certain web site from posting jobs from one of my sites. Is there a way to find out the user-agent of said web site for use in the robots.txt file? If not would blocking the site using .htaccess work?

Does anyone know of any good tutorials for adding your own custom markers to Google Maps and with a search by postcode facility?

Having built more WordPress sites than I can count I consider myself a pretty advanced WordPress developer. Up until now sites I have built have either been handed over directly to the client to administer via the usual wp-admin back end or I have built some basic controls on the front end for things like downloading high-res images (i.e. if you are logged in as a subscriber). What are the options if I want to add more advanced back end functionality to the front end (again only for logged in users of course). For example, I want logged in users to be able to submit posts?

You'll soon find some projects last longer than others, I've worked on a couple of sites that have taken well over a year (not solid work - just clients get lazy) and had I not invoiced for the deposit originally I'd have had to trawl through my bank statements to find the original payment. Invoices are best practice for both you and your clients.

I found I had a similar problem on my web portfolio as people weren't looking at my older work because it's on page 2, 3, 4 etc. I opted for lazy load... http://www.retroedgewebdesign.co.uk/web-portfolio/ Everything is on the one page but not effected by load time, it seems to be working quite well so I may adopt this method for e-commerce sites and remove the need for pagination altogether.

Thanks for eveyones feedback. Most of it makes sense when you think about, I'm going to try out a few things and will let you know how it goes.

This is pretty much what I'm thinking. The problem is a good percentage of the location based pages I've created are ranking really well, it just seems to have crippled my main location. What one hand giveth the other taketh away...

For the last three years or so my site (http://www.retroedgewebdesign.co.uk) has ranked around position 2 or 3 for the search term "web design plymouth". To be honest, this was with little SEO work, my site has been around while and I guess back links from the sites I've built over the years, a few directories and reasonable content has been enough to retain that position. The site recently dropped to around position 5 as a couple of other sites made it in above me. No problem I think, I can handle position 5 as long as I don't drop any further. Over the last month or so I've dropped to the point I'm now on page 2. Whilst at position 5 I started making some changes to the site and I'm guessing it's one of these if not the others that are causing the problems: 1 - I added links with anchor text "Web Design Plymouth", "Web Design Exeter" etc linking back to the home page in the footer. 2 - The large statement with anchor links in the footer. 3 - Pages I've created http://www.retroedgewebdesign.co.uk/web-design-plymouth http://www.retroedgewebdesign.co.uk/web-design-exeter, http://www.retroedgewebdesign.co.uk/web-design-newton-abbot with similar (although not identical) content. 4 - Anchor links added to client sites saying "Website Design Plymouth" I'm no SEO expert (obviously from the mess I've made of my site). I'm a bit confused as to what the benefits of anchor text are as they currently seem to be doing me no favours. Either that or there is something completely unrelated that I'm not aware of? Any help or advice would be EXTREMELY gratefully received?

From the look of the site I wouldn't go near it personally. My rule of thumb is if someone can't be bothered to at least make some effort to present their site well then what's the product itself actually like. Google have spent years and millions of dollars developing analytic s and other SEO tools, what's this going to have over Google, probably nothing.
