Why is google not indexing the homepage?

Featured Replies

My second day at a new job in SEO and I'm wondering why the home page of this site = http://www.nlp-course.co.uk/index.php would not be indexed in google?

If you search it brings up the contact page. Now I'm thinking this is the sitemap, contact is above index. If I could amend the order of that will it correct the issue? And how long am I looking at for this to come into effect.

Thanks in advance

have you used google web master google webmaster

and add some code like this

<meta name="verify-v1" content="kb69oTiAXXkrEREN6DuuCQDSYmCbjiZj8i0ipuNfyw8=" />

Many Thanks for your help.

I apologise - a better site to explain would be to google "www.locksmiths--tooting.co.uk"

The first entry to appear in google is "www.locksmiths--tooting.co.uk/contact.php"

Is this because the contact is above the index link in the site map?

No, that's because Google thinks your contact page is the most relevent to the search string. Think about the nature of the site - locksmiths typically get a lot of "emergency" trade so the point of contact is often the most important?

+ who searches for the domain name, you search for the name of the company to get the domain name.

I see what you mean and that would make sense however this is happening on a lot of sites here and the only coincidence I can find it the site map having the contact link at the top.

Yep, happens to a lot of sites I create as well. Don't worry about it - the important thing is having a decently placed search result so people can actually find the site, once they click through it's up to you to give visitors and easy way to find the information they're after.

In reality your home page is just another page on your site, visitors can enter your site on any page ...

The reason you are not ranking anywhere for your terms and your contact us pages beats it is that you have no links to this site. Normally the home page has the majority of links and therefore link authority and will rank above most pages of your site.

In your case the contact pages is both more relevant and equally as powerful, er sorry, I mean weak!

You had better get some links. If I was you I would experiment and start off purely by content distribution, articles etc

Build a sitemap via sitemap generator, and submit to Google Webmaster Tool & include Robots.txt file, This is the effectiveness platform to quickly crawl your website. Also Search Engine Submission will help you to get index so fast. Based on my experience, i just gather some quality links then i got index at Google right away.
