  1. Answering my own question (sorry about that!) I found this chrome addon https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ckibcdccnfeookdmbahgiakhnjcddpki which does the job nicely, still interested to hear any other tools people use.
  2. Try this: http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?answer=55529 You add an OnClick javascript handler for the link to download the file like this: <a href="http://www.example.com/files/downloadedfile.zip" onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview('/downloads/map'); ">
  3. I'm in the process of re-building my portfolio site and need to go through a lot of sites and generate both thumbnail and fullscreen image files. Does anyone know of any tools, ideally for chrome, to make generating these quicker and easier?
  4. I've developed this site youmaynowkissthebride.co.uk which works well in firefox and chrome. In internet explorer 7 it works, except when you visit the site, the overflow text in the left scrolling frame is often overlayed onto the full height of the site rather than being hidden, it remains visible until the mouse is moved. It doesn't seem to matter where the mouse is moved as long as it's moved after page load is complete. Any suggestions on why this might be happening much appreciated! Cheers,
  5. I operate a few websites which require quite regular version updates. Each update generally requires all files to be replaced. I remember a while ago seeing someone mention that they create a new folder for each version and then when they want to make a version live they make a symlink from public_html (or whatever your web root is) to that folder. When they want to move to a new version they just change the symlink and this makes it possible to move between versions very easily and quickly. Does anyone here use this method and if so how do you go about doing it and what problems, if any, have you found with it? Cheers, Ben

Hey all, cheers to everyone who has got in touch and signed up already, the datas already starting to look more balanced now there's a bigger sample. Only got a few places left in this beta allocation so will have to close it soon. Anyone who's involved in this or the next round of testing will get permanent access to the full API (so basically all the raw data stripped off any personally identifiable information),

I'm working on a little personal project to analyse headlines and how they effect financial markets. Mainly looking at peoples gut reactions to a headline and then analysing the speed at which the headline spreads from the initial source (usually somewhere like reuters, bloomberg or the FT) to social networking/ bookmarking sites and more niche news distribution sites. The site is: theweekbynumbers.co.uk and I'm looking for everything from people to get involved in Beta testing to people to help develop the site and the backend to general feedback/ suggestions on new features and ideas. Let me know your thoughts and if you'd like a Beta invite then sign up using the tab at the top of the page then email me and I'll approve it.
  8. Cheers for all the responses, at the moment I'm settling for using PayPal's send invoices function (which I'd never found before!) when I want payment by credit/ debit card and GNUCash (offline) for accounting and standard invoice tracking. Not perfect but works until I can get something more robuts in place. I quite like the look of BambooInvoice so might start working trying to add "pay with paypal" functionality to it. Think I'm going to install clientexec later (If I remember rightly there's a license included with one of my VPS's) and see what its like.
  9. Cheers, do you know if it can be used to take payments by credit/ debit card?
  10. Thanks! Believe it or not that's been bugging me for about two weeks! Fixed it a treat, a part of me thinks I should have thought to check that earlier on - the IE only thing got me straight onto thinking about CSS/ jscript bugs!
  11. Just wondering what people here user for invoicing clients. With the UK post somewhat unreliable these days I want to cut down the number of clients sending me cheques by accepting credit/ debit card payments. I've been looking into things like Freshbooks which look interesting but ideally I'd prefer something I can host myself. Any thoughts?
  12. Hey, if you view source on this page it shows that they're all nofollow, that said i'm not convinced that Google actually doesn't follow nofollow links, it would make far more sense for them to treat "nofollow" tags as just another indicator.
  13. This one's driving me crazy. On this page: http://www.youmaynowkissthebride.co.uk/contact.html in the contact form at the bottom, the cursor is not visible in any of the textboxes in IE7 or IE8. It isn't a major issue but it's a shame from a usability point of view, anyone got any ideas why it might be happening?
  14. Hey, my sig link should give you a basic intro to "best practices" so to speak. Good luck!
  15. Yep this is a very important factor, arguably the most important (after good content) to rankings.
