Why do you think backlinks (or social media) is going to increase traffic?

 

Do you want backlinks or do your want to make money. The two are not related.

 

Have you got a website that people will want to visit? Are those people who do vistit converting? Are you analysing where your visitors are coming from? Maybe you need to work on converting more of your visitors rather than chase the mythical traffic beast.

 

Here's a novel idea. Why not create a site that is jam packed with great content that people like and share and come back to again and again. You won't need any backlinks, your customers will do everything for you.

Depends upon your website theme, which social media platform you are targeting and what type of content your sharing, At first analyze your followers/Fans peak time when they are online, then post interesting or eye catchy content that convince your followers/Fans to click on them and drive to your website.

 

and your second question is how to get backlink, well it depends on your strategy to build link, you can do two things, first is... create some interesting content on your website and share it on social media and some one will give you backlink if they find it worthy otherwise you can make backlink manually by yourself.

Make an ahrefs account to see backlinks to your website. Then you can use the site explorer to search for your competition where they post backlinks and try to get your links there also.

Yeah, I know what LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) is, and that's exactly what I'm talking about.

 

The relationships between concepts and words, phrases and topics. LSI keywords are keywords that Google deems related to your primary keyword/topic, which gives it more semantic meaning and helps tremendously with ranking and indexing your site.

 

It also helps Google determine how relevant your content is for a given topic.

 

The more semantic context your content has, the more relevant Google will deem it to be on a specific topic, thus increasing your ranking.

 

When you write long-form content, generally you tend to include LSI keywords naturally, but to be doubly sure, sprinkle a few of them within your content.

 

Here's an example. Take the keyword 'cars'.

 

How does Google know from your content that you're talking about Cars the movie, or cars as in the automobile? The answer is LSI.

 

Using the mathematical model you mentioned above (plus some of Google's own secret sauce and machine learning algorithms), Google is able to parse your content looking for relationships between words and phrases. So when it sees keywords like 'director', 'cast list', 'film critics' etc within the content, it can mathematically work out that your content is more than likely about Cars the movie.

What you are discussing is keyword modifers - the words you include to ensure people (and Google) understands you are talking about Cars the Movie not Cars the pop group. So what you re saying is quite correct and good practice, but it's not LSI keywords.

 

It's also worth noting that LSI only works if you have a large corpus of documents. You need a huge amount of material to build the matrices used to do the indexing. Driving traffic to a website takes time. It is not something you can do in 24 hrs. But add you page link in the social media website articles that are relate to your website. If you will add them in the unrelated articles than that will not get you any traffic.

So to simplify this right down, is the purpose for Google to find out which websites contain a similar topics so it can value the backlinks in relation to the content? Or have I completely misunderstood the point of LSi?

LSI uses the structure of each document and builds a pictures of that document. It compares this to all the other documents in the corpus and from there a set of matrices which can be uses in the subsequent interrogation of the data.

 

In other words, it's not something you need to worry about on your website. Just make sure you have really good quality content so if Google ever decides to do LSI on your subject matter your document will add to the mix. It won't help your ranking and it won't get you more visitors.

So websites that contain a lot of quality information, and that cover a lot of different subjects, Google takes the words and tries to understand the context of the information? Is that right?

 

However I'm assuming Google must define smaller sites topic areas in a more basic way (maybe just picking up on keywords without trying to assimilate what context they should be used in, in order to place them within its search engine?

 

In which case all that LSI is doing is placing more accuracy on websites search results that have put more effort into their websites content, but not necessarily pushing them higher in the search engine?

From the website Gareth has used it says this:

However I find it difficult to believe that Google would be so limited to certain keywords. Surely these are simply words that are most commonly used within Google by its users?

 

I typed web design into that site and got 'graphic design firms california' as one of the results. Based on that it must be popularity, which that site is really showing and nothing to do with LSI.

That's just normal searching, it has nothing to do with LSI. The site Gareth links to is wrong. They are not describing LSI. There is no such thing as LSI keywords. LSI uses all the data in all the documents to build the matrix. It needs thousands of documents to do this. The amount of effort you put into creating a document is irrelevant, it just gets pooled with every other document in the corpus.

Getting off LSI, and back to backlinks as per the original thread. My train of thought is that Google like to encourage natural backlinks. So if this is the case then surely the most natural backlinks are those which are industry/topic related websites?

 

The reason I mention this is because I see that people say that all you need to do is build great content. However building natural backlinks is different depending on what type of website/business you have. For example if you are a web design magazine you have thousands of web designers wanting to reference to you most of which use a normal type of link. However if you are the web designer, these magazines, high end blogs, forums, social networking site etc use a nofollow link. And unlike the magazines no matter how good your content is you are unlikley to get a backlink from a competitor.

 

This means many web designers use backlinks from clients, which of course are non topic related and therefore unnatural and do more damage than good.

 

The point I am getting to is that writing great content is good, but some sites are unlikely to gain great natural backlinks.

 

This means for these people, my suggestion would be to carry on promoting the site as per normal, but don't expect high levels of backlinks. However you can still gain high levels of traffic by writing lots of different and unique content you think your clients may be asking. This means that you will be found on Google for lots of different topics increasing traffic to your website instead of being found for those few big search terms.

It takes some time for the google bolt or crawler to crawl a website and index it. The traffic will not increase as soon as you will add back links in the social media blogs or forums. You have to wait for a few days and then check the increase in the website traffic. We should not check the website traffic on daily basis. Are you building the back links with forum and blogs posting and directory submission? To increase the website traffic, the contents of your website should have quality in it not just quantity. You should refresh your website contents regularly.

Make sure that the website you are commenting for getting the back-links have do-follow written in the html code otherwise having your back link in a website with no-follow written in the html code does not give us any benefit of having aur website link in the high PR website.

If you want to know about how to increase the website traffic. You need to do following thing:

1. Directory submission- no link buying or reciprocal links
2. blog commenting- no spam comments
3. back link building with forum commenting-no spam comments
4. Frequent update of your blogs post
5. Relevant page title and relevant meta description and meta keywords in your website
6. Relevant and high quality contents in your website
7. Understanding that traffic has nothing to do with Page Rank
8. Understanding do-follow and no- follow for back-link building(you need to build both of them to make the your website links look natural)

Guest posting is a commonly used method by bloggers to earn Backlinks.

Having a good Social media presence can boost your Backlinks

You can promote your blog in discussion forums related to your niche for Backlink building.
