March 10, 201412 yr I'm wondering, if you are offering a SEO service and claiming that you can gain enough backlinks for people so that they are ranked highly on Google then that is unrealistic isn't it? I've just set up my website (http://www.codexx.co.uk/) and I'm hopefully going to have some customers soon, this backlinking campaign is confusing me, the way that you approach websites and then gain backlinks to the website you are offering seems like quite a hard task. You will have to sign up many accounts to post on forums that are relevant to your customers niche, if you were to do this then wouldn't you have many emails to your email address about the registration of someone else's account. For example, if I had a customer that ran a gardening business and then I went to sign up their business to put their name and a link to their website wouldn't I get loads of information from those websites to MY email address, that would get annoying having signed your email address for a forum. And other ways to gain backlinks to your website, for example posting a story to a local newspaper so that they can include your name on their website. I don't see how I'm going to create an interesting story and then post it to a local newspapers website. I can't think of anything to do with my business that is so interesting that it goes in the newspaper and I doubt I could submit something to a local newspaper about someone elses business. Surely that's an unrealistic expectation to completely SEO their website so that it's at the top of google with many high quality backlinks, that'd take ages to think up an interesting "story" about your business. I've actually created a facebook page for my business (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Codexx/399796176823815?fref=ts), but as I'm still new it kind of sucks. I can't think of what to write on my page that is interesting about my business. I have a logo but still, as I'm new, it's not very attractive to potential customers. I've never been the kind of person to write interesting stories and I've always kind of failed to make what I write interesting, on my website page the content I write seems generic and bland, nothing interesting to bring in the customers, I've taken a look at other websites but just can't think of what to write to make it sound interesting. So yeah, doesn't it seem a little bit too much effort for SEO, not only are you including keywords into your customers website but you've got to go out of your way to write stories and post interesting information on websites on the internet.
March 11, 201412 yr Not sure what you mean by too much effort. It is hard work, but your website will gain little to no traffic without it! Sounds like you are a little frustrated, but my main tip for you would be to concentrate on getting a few decent backlinks rather than loads of crappy ones. I would suggest you start by looking at your competitors with something like Ahrefs or MajesticSEO and targeting an easier local search term. Also you might get a bit of stick from members with your post, but at the same time offering SEO as the first block of text on your website.
March 11, 201412 yr You'll suffer in search engines. SEO is all about marketing a website. Just the same as promoting a product, you need to make it interesting and exciting. Link building can be easier and link building can be difficult. The product or service of a website, along with brand personality and overall budget dictate the level and quality of the links you can build. But you you seem misguided; link building is about going out and signing up to a ton of forums, then getting "social bookmarks" and then signing up for blog commenting. It is difficult. But thats business for you mate, I'm afraid. Plus you're actually thinking too much about links. Take a step back and realise your website and your customer websites want to make money. So they need visitors. theres a multitude of ways to get visitors and theres a multitude of ways to get it from search engines. Local SEO would be great for you, piece of cake to rank for and theres a hell of a lot (without building links) that you can achieve. I have many clients making over 10k per month on 10 quid items that have had no link building but just solid marketing and online marketing. Their traffic isn't setting the world alight either. Another thing; I don't claim to get number one or claim to get any number of links. I tell me clients that it's silly of me and I could fool them by getting some ****ty keyword. I make them money through their website. First goal is usually a positive return on their investment by month 3-6. After that is pure profit for them. It just so happens that I generate traffic from search engines, forums, communitys, newspapers and other online sources. But hey, all this work to make a business successful eh? Damn, it's hard work. But thats why clients pay anywhere between 500 and 10k a month for the work Edited March 11, 201412 yr by jasondexter
March 12, 201412 yr It all depends on the work that you do for the particular project. Getting backlink also depends on the quiality of work. A good quality work will get backlinks from the end user or readers. There is a chance that they will link to you which may increase your backlink count.
March 12, 201412 yr Yes, it does take time and effort, which is why an SEO campaign should be a progressive, ongoing project with the right budget in place. A good solid SEO campaign can cost from anywhere betyween £150-£750 per month, depending on the level of work involved, competition in keywords etc, and can spread across a wide range of methods. In fact, there is a company not so far from me that will not even look at a project unless they have a budget of £2500+vat per month to spend!! I have to say, if you find it too much work, or hard work, then outsource the SEO side of things to a company that can handle it and undertake it professionally. There are many companies that offer a 'white label' opportunity, including our resident SEO expert here. Just because you build websites, doesn't mean you HAVE to offer SEO services. As long as the basic on-page work (well written content, anchor text, image file names, header tags (h1 etc), correct use of meta tags, well structured code etc) is done, then that will go a long way in helping. A lot of my clients cannot afford a lengthy campaign, so the above is always put in place to give them the best possible start. Creating a google maps/places listing is also a great way of targeting local SEO (think this was covered above). If nothing else, take the time to make sure the clients Facebook and twitter business accounts are up to scratch and that they know how to use them to their full potential. You would be surprised at how much a good social media presence can help in regards to overall SEO.

I though I would look at your own website to see how amazing your SEO skills are and all I can say is LOL. Spam links, low quality, blackhat and poor spammy anchors. In fact it would seem you don't actually rank for anything meaningful? I knew I smelt a big rat - why has no one questioned this 'guru' before??? Edited March 12, 201412 yr by JohnH70

I knew I smelt a big rat - why has no one questioned this 'guru' before??? I think you will find Jason has ranked a number of top websites very successfully over the years, and done it the right way! Yes, he may have a certain way about how he comes across, but I'm the same, in that I am straight to the point with what I want to say! The problem here is people have very unrealistic views on what (and more to the point, what is not) SEO and how much work, time and money needs to be put in to a successful campaign.

I would genuinely like to see this big client results because we need an SEO... we used to rank super high but that was 'over the years', things have changed.

March 12, 201412 yr Still avoiding the subject of the spammy links. But that is cool. Wood for the trees and all that ....
March 12, 201412 yr I just use the forum for advice and to give the little advice I can offer. Its not for me to question someone elses ability or achievements! Yep. I see your posts and you are helpful without pretending. ps: not sure why my Safari doesn't like quotes on this forum

John, I run my own successful business, so certainly do not need to hire another SEO company to do the work that can be done in-house, BUT if we ever needed to outsource, Jason would be the first port of call, based on his previous work for other companies. For which of Jasons websites are you referring to spammy links, I am genuinely interested to see. Edited March 12, 201412 yr by roothost

But that website is an SEO by the name of jasondexter so it led me to believe that is him?

Yeah, that's his. So, what exactly, in your opinion, is the major issue in regards to his SEO methods/campaign for said website? I am presuming, and please forgive me if I am wrong, that you have very little experience in the SEO field judging by the original topic of this post?

There are article shares on spammy PR spinning sites, these articles aren't even English. They make no sense. Lots of scabby directory links. Lots of foreign forum signatures. The list goes on. You only have to look to see the domains and the massive lack of quality. You do SEO roothost? If so you know how to check these things and you can see for yourself. I for one do not think it is right that someone acts the boss preaching and fails to follow their own preaching!!
March 12, 201412 yr Advertisement That wants nipping in the bud then, I do not wish to advertise tso hosts in my posts, especially not embedded inside sonething I've written. That makes me look like I'm trying to spam the hell out of the forum...

I'm going to take a look at this, because as far as I am aware, Jason is all above board with his tactics. We've all tried and tested various methods, but (for me at least) not on a live clients site. I only raised the question as it seemed odd you came here asking about link building, yet then seemed to have quite an in-depth knowledge of Black Hat SEO.

You can thank my boss for that!! We hired a company to do our SEO and they penalised our domain through spammy work. I would like to shout the name of the company from roof tops but not sure if that would get us in trouble. They charged us over 1k a month. It was not cheap and it was UK based. Not sure I have ever asked about link building, might have done in older posts but that would be before we got hit and I educated myself. So did my boss. Now he is fanatical about it, which is good and bad in equal measure.
March 12, 201412 yr I could not help but notice the website you linked to declaring it to be your site is for a design company that offers as part of it's services SEO. Rather than offer a service you don't fully understand, (SEO done properly requires understanding the good, bad, and ugly of link building. Also known as back linking.) maybe you should think about sub-contacting one of the SEO specialist's to do your SEO work on your project's and not advertise it as a separate service. On this forum there are hundreds of specialist's in SEO to choose from, a classified add in the forums would get that sorted very quickly I am sure.

Spam links, low quality, blackhat and poor spammy anchors. In fact it would seem you don't actually rank for anything meaningful? I knew I smelt a big rat - why has no one questioned this 'guru' before??? You mean the louis vuitton links? Lets take a minute to wonder why the hell I would spam my own website with links of such nature. Then take a look at all the other websites ranking for SEO Sheffield and map the common patterns across them all and see that there are a lot of common links that have been built by competitors. People would use scrapebox of GSA to post a comment on my website and then blast the URL with links. I don't rank for anything meaningful, because of the exact reasons I outlined above and you can actually map that fall in traffic with the increase in these links. In fact, you can see that my referring domains trebled during October because of those ****ty links. Unfortunately, I don't have time to go through them all because, lets me honest, I enjoy my free time. I still get work through it, so all is not lost. Just not near as much as I used to. But hey, you've been ripped off before so it makes you an expert, right? If you want to see the quality of my work, then just drop me a PM. More than happy to prove otherwise. PS I don't toot my own horn, I use my own references and experiences as examples. I have clients pay between 200 and £3000 a month. BUT that doesn't mean I'm personally making that money. 100+ articles are £50-£70 an article soon eats into a budget. Add in hour long conference calls once a week as well as CRO and all the peripheral software that the client needs, I barely have the budget to sit down and work on their website.
