    No issue at all. And I'm not sure what you mean by hanging it's algorithm regarding www and non www.
     
    I usually use the .htaccess file to tell it to 301 redirect the non-www version to the www version and then use rel canonical to make sure there's no duplicated pages when google crawls multiple variables (such as size etc in the URL). I don't make a point of setting a preferred domain in webmaster tools
