How to start an online shop?

Featured Replies

Hello everybody!

I need some help. I am going to help a friend to start an online shop. What tools should I use?

I've heard about starting a web shop with Drupal Commerce, but altso Drupal Ubercart. Then there is Joomla, WordPress I think is no good for creating a web shop?

What is the trend today? what tools do you use to start online shops?

Thanks for all help :)

That really depends on your business needs, the type of product you're selling, and any shopping cart facilities you may need (such as customer accounts). There are 100's of shopping cart systems around so you need to do some homework first to see which will fit best.

I should point out that I've never done an e-commerce site, I've only looked into the UI superficially. The open-source trend is definitely towards Magento, however I installed it locally yesterday and while it offers a massive number of options, I found it daunting and I couldn't see myself offering it to a small business. (It would take me at least a week to fully get to grips with.) For comparisons sake I also installed Opencart and found the back-end a lot easier to work with, though I'm sure it has reduced functionality vs Magento.

As a somewhat simpler (but no less powerful) alternative to Magento, why not try OpenCart

I've been setting up an ecommerce site for the first time and it has worked really well with more features than you could need.

If you're worried by lack of particular features, there are quite a few extensions to supplement it!

I have never heard about OpenCart before, but it seems to be great for my purpose. I will try it. Is there someone who has created online shops in Drupal? I would love to hear if it works good/baad 8).gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':seas8:' />

This. If you can tell us those details we can give you a nudge toward the right solution.

Some of the best platforms which you could employ to build your online store are , Opencart, Shopify, Oscommerce, and Vendio. You will have to choose a payment gateway according to your region and the other aspect is designing your website well so that visitors have a great experience.

I made an online shop using Drupal Ubercart a few months ago and it works fine. At the time Drupal Commerce was not suitable because it was quite limited in the UK payment gateways it supported - I don't know right now if that has since improved.

You need a good CRM model and an accounting program that's all don't depend on CMS or any other third party >ready to use platforms, it will be expensive managing .

I would recommend you to consider Magento as it is open source and best e-commerce platform. Magento is more user friendly as compared to other e-commerce platforms. Also, Magento has many benefits in terms of features provided by it as compared to other shopping carts.

The best tool for starting a business is PASSION :) .

With that being said, it depends how many products he wants theres so many different platforms, but one thing id would never bee happy about is using a BLOG cms to start a store, id rather leave it to the eCommerce software (magento zencart, prestashop)

Is the OP still reading this? They didn't come back online two days after this thread started...

Some main points to note while staring up an online shop-

A good business plan

Reliable source for product

Proper and good domain name

A elegant website design

eocmmerce software

credit card merchant account.

Always choose the best shopping cart software for your business like shopify, magento, volusion, uniecommerce and 3dcart.

I prefer magento is one of the best choice to start an online business. It comes with best features that helps your website more squired and user's friendly. There are many ready made script available in the marketplace. Like Groupon and Airbnb Clone. Which helps you to run a online business.

First of all you have to figured out what kind of product will be selling over the website and which region. After that you can adjust script according to payment gateway and server location. That is my opinion!

While building up an online shopping, please do note the requirements and then see which ecommerce solution supports all your needs and select the platform. This is the main thing you have to concentrate.

I can suggest you to go with Magento without any other alternatives because magento is being considered as one of the best ecommerce solution to integrate many functionalities, features, easy navigation, extensions and also with attractive templates and themes. So I would strongly recommend magento for your ecommerce site. And the most important features you should consider when you are building a magento store are magento one step checkout method, magento social login, easy navigation, magento blog, magento rich snippets and many more. These are few basic extension you should try out before you launch the magento website. And also there are many extension available for sales motivation factor. So you can build your ecommerce site in magento platform.

Even if you have confusion, here is the comparison of three best ecommerce platform Magento, Joomla and Wordpress. You can decide from reading this post. http://bit.ly/16O67JK
