I like your header! Wouldn't change it. You can change the content part, just give it a nice pattern just like the header, then they both spring out over the rest of the website. I also don't like the idea of having 3 pages on your portfolio page. You can better have like 6 sites together and just put only your best work there.

 

Would give the footer the same black stroke as the menu bar above the header, and then give some pattern to the content part. That will work out!

 

There is also a little mistake on your homepage, the first 2 thumbnails don't match their picture

It's dog-slow. You'll start to lose people when your site takes longer than 2 seconds to load, no site should take longer than 10 seconds. Part of the problem is that you haven' optimised your images - your background weighs half a meg and measures 1500px wide, where you could easily tile a seamlessly-repeating texture horizontally every 100-300px or so.

 

You have a couple of Javascripts outside of your closing </html> where they don't belong, move them within </body>.

 

Edit: I've just realised you're wasting our time reviewing a template. Selling web design and development services on a website you didn't even design or code? That's unprofessional and dishonest. Get the hell off my internet.

Well i never claimed this as my own design. I just wanted feedback on my enhncements. But Hmph. I never thought of it like that. Figured I might as well shortcut my own site so I can focus on other people's. No worries though. I'll post something on here that's handcoded. Thanks for the comments!

lol. thanks for letting me back on your internet. after your comment i did some research. I see that's a hot topic - designers & developers using templates for their own sites. I do it for clients quite often - because it offers a quick turnaround. But this isn't my full time gig so developing my own site right now isn't high on the priority list. For now, the site works for me and my clients. When i become bigger and actually make a living off of this - i can invest more time into it.

 

Keep the feedback coming though! Definitely going to fix that speed problem.

Hi guys. I'd like to be a chef. I can't actually cook, and I can't be bothered to learn, but I've heard the money is good.

 

So how about this.

 

I will offer my services as a chef. When somebody places an order, I drive to Tesco and pick up a matching ready meal. I microwave it, perhaps put a sprig on top or add a bit of ketchup, and I'll serve it to the customer under the pretence that the meal was prepared by me.

 

I don't actually have enough time to cook the meals properly myself so I think this makes it OK?

More like, I want to be a Chef and I enjoy cooking but i don't want to make the buns for my hamburgers from scratch so I buy them from the store!

 

I use templates as the bones of a site and then go in and edit the PHP code, HTML, CSS, and graphics to make it do what I need it to do.

 

I would love to create a site from scratch and that's how I taught myself - with just notepad and google. But i don't deal with customers who can invest the amount of money for a site from scratch - nor do they really need it to meet their requirements.

 

I tell them upfront that their site will come from a template from [insert website] and i'll set it up and edit it for them. That suits 98% of my customes. For the other 2% - you guys can have em!

 

Bottom line here is, will my "restaurant" get 5 stars from "food critics" - No, because it's not authentic. But will my customers have an awesome experience and leave with everything they need - Most certainly!

 

So my system works for me and my clients. You can do what works for you and yours.

 

I should think of a different title though - something like...Web Helper-Outter or the like.

Bad analogy - the bun isn't the core offering. It's about as disingenuous as McDonalds calling itself a restaurant, though.

...and that's the difference between "catering to the off-the-peg end of the market" and "shadily ripping people off". We've had a few of the latter types on here, and when you posted a template for review conclusions were jumped to. Now we all know where we stand, and as long as the templates you choose for your customers are of a professional standard, nobody loses out.
