Hey!

 

I have skills of HTML and CSS, and I am wondering if there is some other stuff I need to know before kicking into Wordpress CMS.

In the near future I'll have to create a website for a friend, and it needs to have a blog implemented (so the user can update stuff via CMS).

 

I've never been working with CMS before. Also I would like to know, which CMS is the easiest to start with.

 

P.S.: Are there any design limitation when you're creating a page (theme) for Wordpress?

 

P.S.S.: I hope you all understand my English (I am from Slovenia)

You won't need to know much more than HTML + CSS. There is minimal PHP involved, but Wordpress makes it fairly straight forward for you.

Wordpress is the easiest of all CMS! All you need to do is know the basics of using web browser integrated wysiwyg html editor which most of the blogs use. Apart from this you need to have little knowledge on hosting service and pointing domains to the servers. You can learn as you work with the website!

It all depends on how far you are going to go. If you are simply going to buy a theme and use that then no php knowledge is needed. However, if you plan on creating a custom theme, then a degree of php is going to come in handy!

And even then it's rather basic PHP as even a design like me can do it!

If you're decent at creating front end sites then all you need to do is learn a bit of how WordPress works and there are plenty of resources out there for this.

WordPress pretty much single handedly put the excitement back in to web dev for me. So give it a go!

QFTW. People who speak English as a second (or third, fourth, fifth) language really don't need to apologise to anyone. It's the most illogical and random language I can think of and I'm consistently surprised that people coming from more structured and logical languages can make sense of it at all.

Same for me, but with general web design. I was reaching a point where I was losing interest, then I discovered wordpress, and as a person who is more of a designer than a dev it was a breath of fresh air for me. It meant my sites could do things, I was not capable of making them do (in terms of functionailty).

 

I personally wouldnt go reading the entire documentation, just get it installed (either locally, or online) and have a play with it. i tend to use various frameworks (that provide my sites with structure and function), leaving me free to design.
