  1. I quite like it at first i loved the wood background, but I'm not sure about it now, The section near the footer with the copious amount of links is a bit too much i get why its there to bring focus to the content. Saying that it will probably be fine when its full with content as you will have to scroll to it, so it will lose focus.
  2. I would think Photoshop would already place the images as background in the table cells. Check that they are the code might look something like this: <TABLE BORDER="0" CELLSPACING="0" WIDTH="50%" BACKGROUND="thiswouldbethenameoftheparticularslice.gif"> If you can show me the code and an example I'm sure I can help you remedy the problem.

  4. I use Dreamweaver for the same reason, I don't do anything in Design View. I think I will always use it just for the convince it offers over notepad and maybe you do the same? Can't see the advantages to using notepad, well except for bragging rights.
  5. I don't normal like flash based sites but that is excellent. Out of all the graphics I manged to click on the one with boobs.
  6. thanks for the list, So many to choose from. If you were to recommend one for CSS, one for XHTML and one book for general web design, Keeping in mind I am a beginner, which books would you recommend.
  7. woops fixed, If im honest though i think i got a little to inspired by Traxors portfolio piece:
  8. Something i came up with quickly, think its a bit boring mind any ideas to spice it up? Aaron Brand
  9. I disagree with the comments above I like it very simple easy to see what you other work is like in esscence portofolio pices should show that you have the skill to design but needs to be simple to use after all thats what the buissness will be looking for, I cant say I am fan of the lilic either buts thats just me.
  10. Defintaly think the navigation could do with a bit of work it doesnt seem to stand out enough, the notepad thing is a bit odd but it was requested, think I need to make it look more like a travel diary.. have to make the lemon hairy i've tried so many different ways but they all look silly. thanks for the input.
  11. extremely easy to install too, i used simpleview admin a while back which was a pain compared to lightbox2. LIGHT BOX LINK
  12. the navigation is great, really easy to use just what you want with a project like this, the homepage is cluttered but your offering a lot of services, its neatly cluttered a user could easily get to what they want. I have no complaint, with projects such as this you want the user to be able find what s/he is looking for quickly and I think the images and titles are big enough to do so.
  13. it is a bit 1999 I'm sure with a bit of thought you'll get to 2008, I'd bring it to the centre of the page and curve the edges of the green boxes (but thats what i always seem to do.)
  14. yeah great, can imagine them being very easy to use. Be a pretty simple to code most of them too.
  15. overall its defiantly almost there i do think the header image could do with a bit more life, try adding something to the gradient, not sure what would work though.
  16. I Quite like it, nice friendly design makes you just want to smile , i like the thought bubble the most. as others send who needs scroll bars
  17. here he is with my first foray in php with the form: http://www.aaronbrand.co.uk/hairylemon2/index.php I'm quite happyish with it, i think it looks a bit generic mind, want was wanted was very specific mind. on thing that does bother me is the XHTML Validator i get one error and i have tried everything no idea what it is I'm not sure why i would recive the same error for the nights & beds fields as they both have empty fields until the php does its work. any ideas?
  18. dictionary definition explains it much better than I would: "A supervised, inexpensive lodging place for travelers, especially young travelers." Glad its quite well recieved its going to be my first paid job, still all comments appreciated.
  19. Something i have come up with in the last hour, so what do you think? and the possibly layout after choosing a hostel:
  20. ah nice one thats what i was looking for.
  21. Is it possible to create this effectin CSS (ignore the awfuly designed website that was my first back in the day ). example here: I'd also like to know how to make the image fade while hovering over the text. thank you
  22. 1024 Never used smaller probs due to the 19" monitor i had with my first computer. I have 24" monitor and websites do look rather silly at full res. I tend to have my laptop beside me running 1024x768 or its native res of 1440x900 to get a better of idea how people will be seeing it. Have to agree with people mentioning the big websites using 1024, cant be any reason to start designing with 800px
  23. I think its great, the banner could do with some toning down I think. otherwise great stuff
  24. thank you for the warm greetings
