  1. Never heard the phrase content is king?
  2. Well I only got so far before I closed the window, SHOCKINGLY its CSS Valid! This is how my computer views websites: <style type="text/css"> <!-- body { background-color: #666666; margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; } --> </style> <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" --><!-- InstanceEndEditable --> <link href="index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <style type="text/css"> <!-- a:link { color: #000000; text-decoration: none; } a:visited { color: #000000; text-decoration: none; } a:hover { color: #000000; text-decoration: none; } a:active { color: #000000; text-decoration: none; } -->
  3. Must be so amazingly pro that its getting 1,000 hits a second and we're the unlucky ones not getting throug Dagnabbit!
  4. If your going to pull a design like this out your ass, you have to think classy, think "Retro Cadbury Advert" or Thorntons; And http://www.nikhandson.co.uk/img/graphicdes...dburyAdvert.jpg Is not what i mean by it either More along the lines of this sort of style; http://www.prints-online.com/image/ADVERT-...fit&pvw=676 Wonder why they called it "Camp" coffee Hard as nails to pull off so more good luck!
  5. Screams woothemes or something, but since its static HTML it canna be laddy! I really like it, if you sort the HTML Errors out (ill ignore the moz css errors, since they arnt actual errors IMO they are browser specific) then it would be quite possibly the best website i've had the pleasure of commenting on so far. However, the layout is not complete yet sooooo I'm waiting Fantastic job on the artwork though!
  6. I completely agree with Dizi (hold up is that allowed?) , everyone needs to know you will make site upon site upon site, your own website will soon be **** whilst your making good stuff for clients, and then you will look at your own site and think, "Christ was I on crack when I designed that?" And recode it, that's why a web designer tends to recode their website at least twice per year. Also don't forget that your own website is a showcase for YOUR SKILLS (hence why a designer updates their sites alot)
  7. Cruel to be kind, If I was learning to do something, I would not want people patting me on the back when I mad a bad job of things, if you are told straight where your going wrong then atleast you can build and grow. You WILL NOT learn anything by people saying "Good Attempt" because you will otherwise plod along thinking your coding is "Good" and you do a "Good Job" where in reality you do not. I'm very straight and will tell people they suck if the suck, and a good if they are good, its the way I am, and it's the way I'd like to be treated, you do not learn otherwise. Its not a learning curve if your think you've nothing to learn, where in reality of web designing - you learn something new at least twice per day, regardless of how important it is Im not saying its NOT a GOOD First attempt, its not too shabby, but its not good, and its not good coding, if sam would have read the source he'd have seen it. Stop looking at the negative and start looking how you can turn the negative into positive, he knows what he has done wrong, and how to make things better.
  8. He has a point, there is no excuse to not have IE7, FireFox3 and Safari installed on your PC running windows, since the browser is avaliable, also try google chrome, although if it works in them, it'll work in chrome* *just about nearly always kinda nearly always
  9. HATE the fact you've got what people would assume as 'folio links from the images, but the images do not link to anything, kinda a bit pointless, make the images links. Style Switcher is Cute, but WAY WAY WAY out the way to be useful. Obviously by the lack of meta tags you've not won any awards for SEO! Very nearly close to HTML Valid; <!-- right_hand_extra_space end ---> I'm sure it will only take you 10seconds to figure whats wrong here, BTW you DO_NOT_NEED_TO_DO_THIS_WHEN_DOING_COMMENTS_BECAUSE_IT_LOOKS_DAFT CSS Valid, but abit of a plain website, make the banner ajax and have it alternate stuff? Kinda abit of a boring image at the top that says nothing about your company!
  10. *Copyright © David Morgan 1998 Are you serious? At first I thought it was just a holding page, a nasty one, I click websites and the red on the black n white grad makes my eyes bleed. </body> <!-- /Body/ --> <!-- copyright --> <div id="copyright"> Copyright © David Morgan 2008 </div> <!-- /copyright/ --> </html> Think your confused about the basics, I beg you to go read some "How to's" and basics, glad you picked up on CSS, Its just a stupid shame your using a WYSIWYG editor and its added style to your HTML rather than style sheet. Nice to see your commenting on where stuff is, even though the divs are in the totally wrong place, the only thing to come after </body> is </html> Good luck in the future mind @SAM No his HTML does NOT Validate
  11. GOOOOOD MORNING 1992! And code to suite, I could actually slap you IRL for using tables background-image: url(http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/Dizzy-dees/eleganceback2.jpg) Niiiiice No offense, Freewebs sites, tacky hosting, tacky sites, enough said. Go read the links people have put and try again. I don't mean to be ruder still but, I kinda threw up in my mouth looking at the design, and the codes given me salmonella. And to the colour-blind nunty above who hasn't calibrated his monitor(s), the background isn't pink it has a texture to it!
  12. Far better till i scrolled, what were you thinking? Stock fonts in your logo, and stock fontage and image used for it, the design could do with a rethink, looks like you moved from 1990 to 2000, now you just gotta leap forward to 2008/9 with the design HTML Strict valid though so /clap! Certainly better than the old site, but the scroll, eek, dont like it when the "header" stays put!
  13. Am i missing something or? the site doesnt load at all! :S
  14. Very old fashioned website style? Not HTML or CSS Valid, contents quite useful though, but doesnt every other websites about photography have this sort of information? You need to stick out from the crowd more!
  15. Adobe Kuler is awful, I absolutely hate with a passion any website thats 100% flash, iPod Touch or iPhone have problems with anything flash, anyway the sites lame, colourLovers is much better and BIGGER! Not bad site, I dislike the use of images for text on nav, with no ALT/Title However that said its HTML Valid, and CSS Valid which is a nice plus, I'm very much a follower of the Wordpress Quote "Code is Poetry", I see plenty of gorgeous sites that are coded like ****, and actually look it in anything but IE You really need to get a client folio' cracking, this might mean doing some total "loss" earners, or freebies for local charities etc (always a good idea), another one, local church got a **** website? Tell em you'll code a site that they can update themselves, use wordpress - job done - massive massive advertising! Kinda reminds me of Matt Brett's site, although his is abit more polished - the colour scheme'ish is there. I would suggest starting to try doing Wordpress Blog Themes in HTML Strict, quicker you start coding strict the better, yeah its a bitch till you get used to it but it really does help keep your code clean! Going to enjoy seeing how your skills grow! PS. /slap <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/"><img style="margin-bottom:15px; margin-top:5px;" src="images/vcss.gif" alt="valid CSS" /></a> One thing you will come to learn and love is span. ie; <span class="valid"><a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/"><img src="images/vcss.gif" alt="valid CSS" /></a><span> or even still <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/"><img class="valid" src="images/vcss.gif" alt="valid CSS" /></a> You wont be allowed to use style within HTML Strict And there's no need to when you use a CSS File! And ofc your css would be; .valid { margin-bottom:15px; margin-top:5px; } And because its a class you can use it multiple times per page, ie for HTML, CSS, WAI, 508 etc
