Hi, this is an awesome question and I am keen to find out other peoples thoughts. Me, personally I would buy both if available (I am bias because I work with domains and hosting). If the .com is not available I would need to assess what the other person with the domain is doing with it and suss out whether its a good move or not. Please also keep in mind soon new gTLDs are launching e.g. .GURU / .SINGLES etc. so you will have an opportunity as a free-lancer to get a bit more creative with your choice of domain name. Last advice, get the .co.uk because in June .uk is going to be released by Nominet and you have the chance to get the shorter equivalent of your domain Hope this helps.

I guess the reason the 'unlimited' term is able to be used is because a spec of 1TB traffic and 200GB can only get hit by very few people on shared hosting. So for most of the market it is unlimited...

Here are some suggestions: BaseKit Several hosting companies are using this as their website builder i.e. 123/UK2/HostGator Alternatively you could check them out directly, their packages provide the domain, hosting and emails 1&1 my personal websiteHowever there are lot of comments on WDF that do not recommend going down the 1&1 route I've had a lot of experience using BaseKit, so my recommendation is to check them out. Please note: going direct with them essentially means you are on amazon cloud, going with a UK reseller (listed above) offers what you wanted...a SquareSpace in the UK. Hope this helps.

I am sure most of the WDF community would agree with here... If the file sizes of the website and traffic is low, check out 'web hosting' aka 'shared hosting' options that allow you to host multiple domains (domains within the account of the hosting provider and domains hosted externally with other registrars). Moving the site can be done in two ways: 1. Yourself 2. The new hosting providers offers a migration service << this option is popping up more and more nowadays Please note: Where you might find the process taking a little bit longer is if you are also transferring the domains. If it is a .CO.UK its easy (change IPS TAG) and most hosters accept this as a free transfer, however if the domains include a .COM, there is a process that needs to be followed (like the domain owner, needs to approve the transfer) and a payment made to the new hosting provider for the transfer. Most hosts only charge what it costs to renew the domain an extra year. I see this post was made a little while ago, however hope this information helps you and others.

Hi there, Would be good to understand what is the intention with the .CO.UK domain. 1. Park it 2. Personal email 3. Portfolio site 4. Business site 5. Sell the domain etc. etc. If it is for selling or parking, best to buy it outright, so many hosts do it cheap. With GBBO, you will probably need to stick with them for 2 years, 1st year free and then you pay (don't quote me though) If you do want to use it for emails or a site, then I HIGHLY recommend getting the domain with hosting, with hosting you could install WordPress in one click, set up emails accounts (to look professional) or just put a funky holding page for the time being. You can find hosting from between £1 - £2.49 a month with most hosts for an entry level package.

Hi, through 123/GD/DM, you can sell your domain for the price you want e.g. £200. The result will be shown as a premium domain. If people are not buying it @ £200 you will need to play around with the pricing. Going down this route, you share the money made with the domain company selling your domain and the platform they are using. Yes, you could get it appraised and then need to wait for a buyer etc. going down the route I suggest means you just need to play with the pricing week to week until it goes. Agreed, mdouglas.co.uk is the ideal option. However there are promos for .CO (~£9.99) and .CO.UK are quite well priced, why not buy all of them and point to one site? .CO is getting a lot of traction imo in the start-up world and the browser companies accept it like a .COM.

I was reading some of your posts last week and I think I might have a suggestion for 'the next WDF' meet up ;-) With the contribution part, I hope to give some input on the hosting part and learn more about the needs of web designers.
