I have been with Webhostinguk for a while now however they changed their services, and the host is no longer serving up pages at speed which I purchased their VPS solution for.

 

On my heaviest page I get 85% Pagespeed, and 90% Yslow from GTMetrix, while my website isn't currently full optimised the statistics just seem ridiculous.

 

Page load time: 12.98s

Total page size: 316KB

Total number of requests: 41

 

What I was getting:

1 dedicated CPU Core

1 GB RAM

15 GB - I barely use one, max will be 5GB

Unlimited Bandwidth(can't remember what they said about this)

Full Root SSH Access(never used panel)

2 IP's

CentOS 6.2

 

I am paying £21 per month, what is the fastest uk(preferably mainland England)solution I can get in that price bracket? I would rather not setup my Linux server from scratch this time a round.

It is between 34sp, vidahost and tsohost.

 

Any views people on vidahost and 34sp? I have seen plenty for tsohost.

I'm with vidahost but I'm pretty clueless about hosting. I just went with them based on a handful of good reviews I found through googling.

 

I haven't noticed any problems but I have a pretty new, small site with hardly any traffic and not many images - so I'm not a good test case.

Reviews are always as per customer satisfaction reagarding particular things. You need to compare above hosting service provider look for kind of services you are looking for and which company is satifying your needs. The one which satisfies is best company.

What you say is true but there is very little difference in what they provide or the price, so it is now comes down to experiences to set them apart.

 

Edit: Vidahost and Tsohost are owned by the same parent company which explains why I am struggling to differentiate their services. I will go with TSOhost as I can see the performance of my friends account.

Thanks, just migrated across, so far so good, hitting sub 2s in all but my heaviest pages which are loading around ~4s

Ok interesting, please email me your domain name and I'll have my colleagues take a look at what we can do to optimise it further.

Well going from 12 s to 4-2s is definitely an improvement so congrats on the move. A VPS is usually overkill for many and a semi-dedicated account would work best, especially if root SSH access isn't needed anyway.

 

It sounds like the issue maybe more to do with the code used on your site or your images aren't optimized properly, or some external URLs/calls are loading slow causing your pages to load slower. A developer can help with this.
