  1. It wont cause any indexing problems but it will cause ranking problems for your site. I would focus on which ever side of the site is going to be more useful to visitors. For which ever on isn't as useful i would get a second URL and forward it to that section of your site. use that URL on all promotional material for that section of the site. Like business cards and brochures. If you are not going to be focusing on keywords other than your name you will have no trouble ranking the splash screen page with the 2 links. If you want to target something more broad you will have issues. If you could give some more information about the site and what you are hoping to accomplish i could help you out better. Breaking one site up into 2 different sections like that is usually not the best way to go. I am guessing so big wig deciding that's the way it should be. You should take a look at your information and decide how to place it on the site so it is most useful to visitors. Visitors are not interested in how your business is setup internally - they want to find the infromation they cam for as quickly as possible.
  2. ommenting on blogs can be a great way to build thousands of back links quickly. All you have to do is go to the blog and comment regularly enough to become a top commentator. After you are top commentator you will get a site wide link back to your site. Every site you are top commentator on could result in hundreds upon hundreds of back links. Below i have complied a list of blogs currently rewarding commentators by using the top commentator widget. Remember when commenting on these blogs - add to the conversation and don’t spam them. If i have missed any blogs that use the top commentator widget please leave a comment and i will add them to the list. 3. That wont do anything. Are you ranking well for your targeted keywords? Did you go after a keyword with a lot of competition and are not ranking well for it?
  4. He is just a dirty link dropper then. I believe people who do stuff like that should be banned forums don't just want members they want quality members.
  5. Page rank is an algorithm for determining a web sites worth with the amount and quality links it has. To get more traffic and top ranking you will need to select a keywords to focus on and getting links with the anchor text contain the keywords you want to rank for. Your keyword should be in your description and title and on key places on your page.
  6. The only reason to do seo is to get your web site off the ground and found so you can start getting natural back links you will never get back links if no one can find you. is it OK to do seo on Friday in the rain? No one knows - we can only make assumptions. We can only try things and see if they work.
  7. It will only show the keywords people have used to find your site.
  8. Forum links generally pass very little value from the forum to your web site. They are quantity not quality. So i was thinking today why don't we try and harvest some quality links out of a forum. You may ask how do we do this? we start a thread for everyone one intersted we all make one post in the thread. WE add a perma link to that thread in our signatures passing value to the thread and creating a higher quality link to our web sites. What do you guys think of this idea?
  9. I did not tell him to spam keywords i told him to put them in as much in possible. i should have added that he should make the work for humans as well.
  10. You are going to have a hard time ranking for web designer portfolio. I would try and narrow in on a geographic region. And and try and add your keywords into your description and title as much as possible.
  11. I wasn't sure where i should post this. I have recently started to turn all my articles into podcasts and wanted a review on my first one to see if i should change it or re-record. the link is http://www.mfinch.ca/blog/where-has-all-the-copy-gone please any feed back would be appreciated
  12. Please review my blog and web design. If you like the articles on the blog stay tunned the rs subscription will be up soon and we are posting new articles all the time. www.mfinch.ca and www.mfinch.ca/blog/index.php
  13. New sites fluctuate a lot just keep on keeping on. Keep building back links
  14. Depending on the client and how they are contacting me i sometimes send out a form for them to fill out. I generally do that if i have no way of contacting the client other than email. I have a list of questions that i keep in mind when i am talking to other clients as well. I keep a list of questions around the office so i don't forget anything. Clients hate it when you forget something.
  15. Design is not as important as marketing and content. If you have a fixed budget or no budget i would focus on content and marketing because having a site will do nothing unless people come to it. Content is King on the internet that is what it was designed for and what it is used for. It wasn't Designed to look pretty. although making it look pretty can make your site look more professional and trustworthy. BUt you need to decide what is most important to you and which will help you accomplish your goals. I hope this gives you a base to start your own web site.
