Is it really worth submitting to the search engines every month?

 

I've heard two opinions:

 

1. Submit every month for a better Page Rank

 

2. Submit every month and you'll get knocked back for 'Search engine spamming' (over-submitting)

 

Which is true please?

To be honest neither is really true, the best way to submit your website is via a .xml Sitemap - it's the best way to let Google know when you have new content on your website and how frequently it is updated. The best way to build your Pagerank is publish regular content and also get more backlinks (people linking to your website) - if you publish good content often - try submitting it to Social networking sites - Digg, stumbleupon etc and get more traffic to your site. Then the backlinks will hopefully come

 

If you are using a CMS (Content Management System) then there might be an automatic sitemap generator module for it.

 

Create an account over at: http://www.google.com/webmasters/

Create a profile and submit your Sitemap. You'll also find some excellent features about your website aswell using this tool.

Once a search engine has at least one page of a site listed it knows you're there so you don't need to resubmit

This may sound silly... But how do I make a sitemap for google then? Also is there any point in having one for a phpbb message board? e.g my site is a message board. Thanks

Also this google/webmaster WHEN I go to were it shows which search queries most often returned pages from your site, should that show keywords I have made or just words people have used to find the site?

It will only show the keywords people have used to find your site.
