I remember they did a similar thing when Windows 7 launched. Now I'm at uni I can get Windows 8 for free (I'm guessing they just assume we're gonna pirate it anyway). My housemate has it installed at the moment. I'm not as down on it as I thought I'd be. The interface looks pretty nice, although the huge buttons kinda look silly if you're not using a touch screen.

One website I keep visiting for a chuckle is one I found for a local fabric shop. http://www.fabricland.co.uk/ Seriously, this thing looks like it was ripped right out of the ninties. It's got it all. Garish colour scheme, horrible frames, animated gifs, bold text hyperlinks. It's a massive eyesore.

Here's a question: Would you pay a small fee to have a faster, ad free youtube?

I'd say it's dependant on the complexity of the site and the skills and preference of the web designer, but no one's going to come out and say your approach is "wrong" as long as the site functions and looks good. If I were to express a preference, I'd say responsive. Especially with the lines between mobile devices and desktop machines being blurred with tablet computers (including smaller 7" tablets). All of which have differening control methods and screen sizes. Using separate mobile sites means you might end up wanting three separate sites rather then two, and the benifits of dedicated mobile start to break down. Main thing is you've actuall taken mobile users into account. As a student project, I've been collecting and looking at usage data for 51Degrees.mobi. At the moment, we're seeing a pretty consistant 20% of website requests coming from mobile devices and it's rising.

I like it. I'm super underqualified to offer any real advice, but I did notice a few typos in some of the logos you have on there. Not sure if intentional.

This, this, a million times this. I keep making this argument to people who go on about apples market share in the mobile OS department going down but no one seems to understand. The fact that every single person who uses an iOS device is doing so on a hardware platform from ONE manufacturer is a huge deal. Apples market share decrease means they've slipped down from "Outstanding" to "Very Very Good". It's like the slip in the Wii's sales or the drop in WoW subscribers. Yeah, it's a drop, but they're still trouncing everything else out there.

Wow. Never seen anything like that before. At a guess I'd say it's your Monitor, but the only way to really be sure is to test with another. You could try changing VGA/DVI cable as well, but that's a long shot. Is your monitor in warranty?

I've had my 3GS for over a year now. I bought a decent quality polyurethene case which doesn't add that much to the form factor and leaves the entire front facia uncovered, but it's still protected it from the numerous times I've dropped it (once on a tiled floor. Watching that happen was the longest 3 seconds of my life). I'll be getting a 5 in January when my contract renews I think.

Due for an upgrade in January. I think I'll pick one up then. Kind of miffed about the new adaptor though. I have two or three iOS devices that I use regularly and I like the fact they all use the same connector. Ah well.

I work a lot better when I keep them separate. Work is done in the office, study is done in the library, videogames is done at home. It helps that all of these locations are within walking distance of each other, but I find myself getting far too distracted if I try to mix them. I'm pretty sure everyone has to figure out what works best for them.

Already played Arkham City. Good game, but I'm not really into the whole comicbook superhero thing so I had no desire to keep playing it after I finished it. Sleeping Dogs is meant to be pretty good as well.

I guarantee as soon as the conversation gets round to what you do for a living, you'll get something like: "Really? Because I've had trouble opening pdf files in itunes. Could you show me what I'm doing wrong?" Mums are the worst for that kind of stuff.

Agreed. Scan's budget systems are really good value for money, especially if you just want something that will do word processing/web access. What kind of stuff will you be using it for?
