May I recommend Grammarly.com? It's a free online grammar service.
(I personally need to use it. It's useful for punctuation, too.)

To be honest, no, it isn't so clear what to do, that's right. I was thinking more from a design standpoint to begin with, and then the guidance stuff for visitors and obvious steps or things to click on can be added.

Just checked the site on my phone (while waiting for the wife to get ready) and it is responsive - but it's not good responsive.
@seedism the perfect website article doesn't look right on a small screen.

Bin the splash page - it adds no value.
You don't follow your own rules on your webpage (even though they are wrong).
It's unclear what I get for my money. It suggests it's a website care package but it also looks like it's a website installation package.
2016 is an old theme, 2017 has many more features, is faster and is more secure.
There are no contact details anywhere and no calls to action. So not really sure about the purpose of the site.

Is there anything you really don’t like? Um, yes, a few things come to mind.
 
I hate the mobile version and the full version is not responsive, but that said I'd rather battle on zooming as I know where everything is. For me I live on the latest posts and recent topics, as generally they're fresh rather than digging in older threads by category. If you could move latest threads and latest posts to the top of the mobile home screen it would be much better, then all categories underneath?
 
Minimum post count for new members is annoying, but so is letting anyone open as many threads as they like. Not 100% sure on a the better way, maybe each can start up to three threads (introduction and first question) which would unlock to more when a member older than a certain date, or has over X posts replies? I think many established members would either reply or report based on the thread which I think would help out mods.
 
And finally some way of addressing old threads to be locked. Sure some are worth waking up but many, especially in the SEO section, are reviving way out of date ideas that should be put in a museum along with tables for layout.

The Web Designer Forum will be getting a long-overdue facelift soon.
 
We’ll be removing some of the less popular and monetised sections of the forum, including the classified ads, job ads and the market. The new-look site will be more mobile-friendly and have a modern, minimalist aesthetic.

Your new layout is a lot better then the original, and simple is better for a news website.
I do not love the layout, but I do not think there is much wrong with it, perhaps it does need a few stylish elements to break up the monotony of text.
Icons would perhaps make it a bit more unique, I do not see a login area, and perhaps a nice logo.
Also I always feel a rich footer would make a site feel more easy to navigate.
 
But it is a lot better then the original so well done.

About colorscheme, I like dark myself so nothing wrong there, i agree with donkeyworx that the video in the menu does not work very well for the rest simple but effective website.

This depends on if you actually need WordPress. I wouldn't recommend learning it unless you have a good reason to use it. There are many other tools many much better depending on the task at hand than WordPress.
If you are making a personal blog for example I'd recommend against WordPress and use a static site generator. If you are building a web-app WordPress would be a terrible choice. Instead you'd want some Node/Python/Scala backend | using a REST API or better still GraphQL. On the frontend some framework like React/Vue/Anguar. No monolithic PHP CMS.*If you are building a website for a client that needs a CMS there are many alternatives to WordPress like Craft, Expression Engine. you aren't even limited to PHP based CMS's with options being available in a variety of languages.
Again only use WordPress if it's the best tool for the job - generally only ever is the best tool if you need a CMS and don't know any others. If you have not used any CMS before your time might be better spent learning an alternative. To conclude I am really glad that I will probably never have to touch Wordpress again in my career. I know many successful developers who have never touched it.

Sorry i'm not into WordPress, but that said I thought I'd post a rejig to see if we can get answers to some of the components and what they do, it might also help others think of plugins for each bit. As many here have pointed out you'll need to interpret the design into components, if I was handed a mock-up of Googles home page it seems simple enough, but the question is always 'what happens when I press X', this is where the time can quickly disappear.
 

When I think about it you should just install BBPress and Buddypress, making a forum gives you all the room they need for their site.

I personally never really use any themes but only make child-themes so can not help with theme tips, plugins you will not need many to get the functionalities as presented on the sample image.
 
Unless they want you to make a full fledged membership site if people need to upload their barmitzva´s and images etc.
That will be a much more complicated website and I would suggest BBPress, Buddypress to start with as this creates a forum where you can make separate categories for these uploads.

Hi Hoax, I think that everybody here agrees that if your client gave you that as what they want you should ask them if they can tell you why and what they want to do with the site.
 
It is so simple like 1990´s text based internet, you should ask them to show you a site which can act as an example, ask them to go online and find something that looks like what they want because that image they send you is really really bad.... even the Jewish sites need to be of this century.
 
But anyway, you should start looking into making child themes, with your own "skeleton" child template you can produce websites in 1-2 days if they are this simple.
 
I do not think a template like that exists as it is not what a modern design looks like.
 
Good luck though, do not spend too much time on the project, fast turnover for a simple site.

I'd put money on nearly everyone using Google or Bing or some other search engine to look up the number of the local minicab company.

As it turns out, I am going to instead create a website that uses the layout as a guideline for the overall design, as opposed to replicating a rough mock-up.

Also, as I've written before; I have more than 2 days to complete. Lastly, as stated earlier, I do know how to use Wordpress, but would not mind some more tips from a more experienced hand, primarily suggestions on what theme and plug-ins would be best to use, if I don't start from scratch.

There is a few issues first of all classnames must be separathed with a space
This:
if (x.className === "navigation-desktop") { x.className += "navigation-mobile"; } will result in:
class="navigation-desktopnavigation-mobile" So you should ad a whitespace before the classname
if (x.className === "navigation-desktop") { x.className += " navigation-mobile"; } or even better have a look at classList.toggle
 
For the CSS you should remove the whitespace between
.navigation-desktop .navigation-mobile You do not want to target a child element but the same element with the ekstra classname.

The parent CSS will always take precedence. The child theme CSS set up the child theme specific styles.
 
If you want a complete set of different styles you need to add them all to your child theme CSS

I am not a web developer, but I did work in an SEO company before as a strategist so I think I can come up with 1 or 2 recommendation to improve this site.
 
1. The site is a shopping site, but it's not secure. Make sure to convert to https, given that the site requires the visitor to provide his/her payment details.
2. The product description should be added. Each item should have a product description so that the potential buyer will know what he/she will be getting once they purchase the product.
3. The homepage needs improvement. Upon opening, the very first thing that the visitor will see is a picture of a man creating a glassware. It's a pretty picture, but it took almost half of the page. Maybe you can use the picture as a background and push the (About Us) content up so that the visitor will be able to see it right away.
