Prototyping and Wireframes Software
Hi, I'm thinking about downloading software to help build wireframes and prototype (pseudo-functional) web pages. Can I ask please what software you use for doing this and can you recommend anything in particular. I have looked at the Axure software (http://www.axure.com/) which looks pretty good. Cheers Richard.

(Free?) Package for blogs/gallery/forum
I'm just starting a website project for a social running-club. They meet and run each week. They want to be able to update a page showing the venues of forthcoming runs(with a thumbnail image), and another one for reports of runs that have happened. (i.e. sort of two blog pages). They want a photo gallery page that they can update themselves, and also a forum sort of page. Ideally I would like to customise/skin the pages to some extent too. Is there any "out-of-box" freeware package these days that could easily be used for this sort of project?

Menu drop down not rendering properly in IE6
Hello all, I have been tinkering with this one for too long and haven't managed to fix it. I have a page which has a Spry drop-down menu generated by Dreamweaver CS4. I realise that some people will say use a CSS only menu from CSSPlay etc, but I really want to fix the one that is already coded if possible. My web page is rendering properly in IE8, Firefox and everthing else, but in IE6, the submenus appear behind the images that are below them on the page. The web page is at http://rb40.co.uk/test/ PLEEEEEASE can anyone help me? I just want to understand what is going wrong. Thanks

Aaaaaarrrgh! IE7 CSS layout problem
I've cleared my cache for IE and still the problem is there. It surprises me that this is happening in IE7. Usually I only get problems with IE6!

Aaaaaarrrgh! IE7 CSS layout problem
No - again that made no difference. The page is still appearing correctly in FF3, but not in IE7. Of course, I'm hoping the solution might be something as simple as your suggestion! Has anyone else seen this before?

Aaaaaarrrgh! IE7 CSS layout problem
Hi , I need to fix a layout problem really urgently, and I'm pulling my hair out. The page can be seen at http://www.rb40.co.uk/ The problem is the pink strip above the "Ready Made Lists" on the left hand side. (The div id is "leftContent"). The page appears correctly in FF 3.0.5, but not in IE7 (and prbably IE in general). PLEASE can anyone help please or suggest a solution.

Jingledesigns.co.uk stole all my design work and claimed it as their own!
Jake, if you want to see what it looked like, look at dizi's little space on the web, then globally change "Helen Harris" to "Jamie Cressy" and "Dizi Designs" to "Jingle Designs" and that's about it! He didn't even change the images, text, meta tags in the source code. The only thing he did change was the page tracker at the bottom of the html.

Well I checked the link to Jamie Cressey's copy 10 mins ago and then send him an email. Just checked his site again, and he has JUST removed it. Hope he's feeling suitably ashamed :-)

Poor you! It looks incredibly identical to your design. But yours was featured in Smashing Magazine!... months ago. There's the proof. Hope you've filled his mailbox with your dissatisfaction ;-)

Wow! What sort of coffee do you drink!!

Very First One :)
I like it. It looks good to me. The whole page fitted onto my browser screen, without scrolling, though that might not be true for everyone, so I would question the wisdom of having the navigation at the bottom. One teeny thing though. The page title has a misspelling of "Luxury". (You have "Luxry"). Not sure whether that was deliberate for some reason for search engines, but doesn't shout quality.

Encrypted Url Download Link ?
Hello. I've been asked to design and develop a website which will have downloadable files (pdf, wav and mp3). The URL (links) for these files need to be "hidden" so that only authorised people can download them. Is there any way of supplying users of the site with a "once-only" encrypted URL link to the file that they want to download? This could either be: 1. a password that ONLY works for their email address, 2. a URL that expires after a short time, 3. a script that moves the selected files into a temp directory with a random name, and deletes them after a short time. 4. an exe that downloads them without showing the user the links. I'm stumped. Does anyone know how to do any of the above? Are there any scripts (any language) out there already written that do something similar? Can anyone think of a better solution? Thanks.

Wordpress vs Learning PHP/MySQL
It's a static html /css site for an Au Pair agency. Can't see that there would be many updates to be honest. The owner wants to have the ability, herself, to be able to change text and maybe photos that are built into the site, as and when she wants, without having to call me up to do it for her. I've used (ex-)Macromedia Contribute on a site before. It made it easy for the customer, but it was a bit annoying as they had to buy software and install it on there own PC. I've looked at Joomla, but am finding that a real job to fathom out. The pages of the site are already built. Is it too late to enable her to do this easily?

Wordpress vs Learning PHP/MySQL
I have a website (not blog) already built that my client would like to update themselves. Joomla looks 'orrible to me. I always assumed that WordPress was just for building Blogs, though everyone seems to be raving its CMS capabilities. I'm not incredibly proficient with MySQL/PHP, so not as clever as Rachael building her own CMS! Accepting that this may elicit different answers from different people, which is the best CMS (in my circumstances) for a site that is already built? Is it better to build a site on a CMS, or to bolt a CMS onto a site after it is already built? Sorry for the daft questions!

Online Image Resizer
I came across this great website and I'm finding it really quick and useful: http://www.ResizeMyPicture.com (a.k.a. ResizeMyImage.com or ResizeMyPhoto.com). This allows you to change the dimensions of gif, jpg and png files and it does it very smoothly too. There are shortcuts for changing width (or height) to either 200px, 400px or 600px, or you can change the dimensions to anything you want if you click on "more options". It resizes the image online, without making you wait in a queue or eliciting your email address. It even allows you to change the resolution % when saving jpegs.

Help! Yet another CSS layout problem in IE 6
Thanks again Expat. I can't use the Tredosoft offering yet, as I am using Vista, and they can't get IE6 to work properly on Vista. (Not that it works properly anywhere else)!! I like Rachael's suggestion link to http://browsershots.org/ though. This is just enough to show, using screenshots that MSIE6.0 is out there in it's own little non-web-standards-compliant world! Still can't fix the problem with my webpage though. Will keep tinkering with width type settings in the CSS and see if I can get it to work in IE6 without messing it up everywhere else.

Help! Yet another CSS layout problem in IE 6
Thanks for your reply, Expat. Why can't they all just work like Firefox! At the moment, my only access to IE6 is on a PC in someone else's office every couple of days. Does anyone know, if it possible to install different versions of IE on my laptop at the same time? Or is there some sort of emulator tool for testing webpages on different browser versions. I currently have IE 7.0, Firefox 2.0, Netscape Navigator 9.0 and Opera 9.26 installed on my laptop. Thanks!
