    Personally I wouldn't do that. When I get an automated welcome message I can tell and it feels cheap. I've got 2 Twitter accounts so I know when someone uses it. Sometimes is out of context or just makes them look stupid = unfollow.

    I'm sure you can take some time just to say thanks for the follow.

    Awesome. Congrats dude. I've been in a few publications, the most resent being the mobile web designers idea book, so I know how it feels.

    Good job.

    OliverB got a reaction from TheUninvited in what do you think of the user Navigation on the top?
    I think that the 'Go Pro' button needs to be a different colour. The 'Create your own...' box below it draws attention away from the go pro button because they are both yellow.

    Also the social media icons are the old versions. Not sure about the dotted border either.

    I think the logo and layout is nice and clean though.

    Thx Oliver. I actually went and tried to validate my css and came up with the 'px' error. When I put it in and reloaded the page it seemed to have fixed the problem. Thank you again.

    Edit: Thank you for the advice about putting the dimensions on the div.

    In my opinion - the orange gap between the "New Business Deals" and your footer (I assume) looks too wide.

    Apart from that, it looks OK.

    Flat design does make you feel like you have done half the job but think of the time spent by designers adding drop-shadows, rounded corner, gradients etc.

    Hello the first thing I can see is that you don't have any units for your body width and height.

    body{
    font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-size: 18px;
    background-color: #1D201E;
    width: 1640; <!-- this should be 1640px -->
    height: 1200; <!-- this should be 1200px -->
    }

    Try changing that first and see if your problem still persists.

    It's also worth noting that you usually apply width and height dimensions to a container wrapper (#pagewrapper) instead of the body directly.

    I put it in codepen and couldn't replicate it. If Oliver's help doesn't solve your problem, can you provide a little more information? What browser it is happening in, perhaps give a live example?

    personally, i'm not a big fan of these phrases. for me, there is no web 2.0 or web 3.0, it's just the web and it's evolving and it's evolving fast.
    each of these phrases can be defined as a next era of the web, a different approach to connecting people and information throughout the web using certain collection of new technologies.

    I'm recently pro framework. There is a theory that the wheel should not be reinvented and they can be huge timesavers. That said there is a fair amount of customization involved and it is best to use them as mixins ( less for bootstrap, sass for many others ). I would also rather spend my time contributing to an existing framework than coming up with my own. The best way to find out where you stand is to try it out.

    Thats only assuming that you are modifying an existing theme. Its easy enough to create your own.

    OliverB reacted to throzen in New trend for web designing in 2013
    Of course people would design based on a trend, especially companies and especially flat designs.

    Taking the flat design as an example, it's meant to be simple to use and navigate seamlessly, which focusses purely on content. If people (or, in the eyes of businesses, 'customers') are adapting to flat designs in the wake of mobile/tablet browsing, then going down the flat design pathway is the best way to reach to your respective customer base. Why make it harder for your customers to browse your website? Your site is a platform for selling yourself or your company/product, if flat design therefore is a common interface then do away with making a funky, completely original design and just follow suit. That's certainly what companies are doing now in my browsing experience.

    This is why the parallax design is a hopeless type of design for companies - it's an overcomplicated interface that lacks information, which is why it isn't trendy.

    I recently started using browserstack.com which is quite good (so far). Good selection of live test environment options but you can't beat pinching your friends phones and devices down the pub and having a little look

    As someone mentioned above it's way more better than most of the websites that Driving Schools have, however, other than functionality the design is not that pleasing to be honest. Reminds me of early 2000's, simplicity looks amazing if it's applied the right way, here to be honest it's not applied properly. Good job though.

    Looks good Oliver, nice work. It's certainly a hell of a lot more pleasing to look at than most other driving school websites (http://tinyurl.com/klwzydv - need I say more?).

    Personally I find the bright green a little too profound and 'in your face'. Additionally the font is somewhat effortless, it could look a lot sleeker with a smaller-sized Tahoma or Arial choice, or eve go for a custom @font-face to be extra adventurous. Also, you've gone to the effort of making the site look nice with the background image and toggling info-box in the middle, why not spice up the contact info top-right of the main page? It seems like it doesn't belong there, almost like it's been slapped on because it fills a space. You could add some design to the '#cta' container div, make it a bit more pleasing to look at.

    Just my personal preferences, nice work otherwise.

    The menu is also the most noticeable thing for me, maybe try setting the link to be 100% width, below a viewport of 600px and stack them on top of each other.

    You have to imagine clicking those links when the website is accessed through a mobile phone etc.

    looks good, the menu/navigation could do with some work when the width is small as it goes on two lines

    you change those values with the width and height that you want to display ie if you wanted the left colum to be 800px wide and the right column to be 160px you would change those values

    Flat UI is definitely on trend at the moment, but I have to agree with Teodora that it's being used for the sake of it sometimes. If pulled off and applied correctly I think that it can look really good.

    I'm not a fan of Bootstrap either. HTML5 have brought in some new semantic code and frameworks like Bootstrap just go totally against it. HTML5 boiler plate and some elbow grease for the responsive design...more fun and controllable.

    Ok to remove the white border you need to remove 'max:width' from nivo-slider9d52.css?ver=3.5.1, line 13.

    line 13
    .nivoSlider img { position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; max-width: none; } For the broken image have a look in the same CSS file and remove the references to the old WordPress website. There is a loading.gif on line 11 and another reference on line 43. line 11 .nivoSlider { position:relative; width:100%; height:auto; overflow: hidden; background:#fff url(../../wp-content/themes/bluediamond-v1_05/images2/nivo-slider/loading.gif) no-repeat 50% 50%; }
    line 43
    .nivo-controlNav{ display: inline-block; padding: 11px 16px; height: 8px; line-height: 8px; background-image: url('../../wp-content/themes/bluediamond-v1_05/images2/nivo-slider/bullet-bg.png'); background-position: 0px bottom; background-repeat: repeat-x; } I hope this helps. If not it might be a good idea to start from a fresh with the Nivo slider. It's not hard to use and there seems to be some extra code in there that I don't usually see. But that might be because it's from a WordPress plugin version.

    I recommend you learn how to use SASS (SCSS). Using this media queries can be nested within elements, for me it helps a lot with maintainability. You can name the breakpoints using a mixin and then you can call the media query by name like a variable or function.

    I don't like listing breakpoints with names such as 'mobile' I'pad' the're simply to device specific, I just give them generic names like Small, Medium, Large. With the breakpoints themselves not being set at specific device width, but at a width when the content begins to break / look less desirable.

    Have a read of this for a more in-depth explanation.
