My eyes are f#@$ed!, so I can't tell colors so well, plus with my blue light PC glasses..

 

Which design is better and why, please?

Makes very little difference - took me a while to even notice the background colour.

 

Light blue is one of the most difficult colours for the eyes/brain to process. A strong blue is fine but light blues take a lot of effort as you can see on this image: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/HBase/vision/colcon.html

 

Fewer blue cones means the brain has to do more work to compensate and light blue is in the lowest absorption band.

 

(this is why there is so much more to colour selection in webdesign. And we haven't even begun on the various types of colour blindeness)

png b has the same style of rounded tile so it implies the right column is the same heirachical level as the main section - if this makes sense then use b, if not, use a

I'm not much of a designer, so I consider that going with a minimalistic look will be more unique (and honest) and come off as modern, but then think that many viewers need to be led by the hand, so a few more traditional UI elements would help. I'm not sure what color, font and font-weight to do the main menu text - Yes, that blue is not very effective. From that color info you supplied, I will make sure I get enough vitamin A

 

I'd love to know what the best background color would be, to contrast the white of the site, too.

I'm impressed that you can actually see that the tiles are rounded (3px), especially with those colours in png b.

I hadn't thought too much about hierarchal level cues, as opposed to color and quick access, so that's interesting to remember to consider.

 

If you have any recommendations about a more ideal background color, please say.

I just checked my site on my girlfriend's monitor. I didn't even realize that the background is a type of pink colour!

Maybe I need to calibrate my monitor.

 

Please recommend a decent background colour if you can. I'd really appreciate any advice and better eyesight.

That's good to know, and I appreciate your time. I decided to go with png b's style. For the time being, I've chosen a background colour of #F5F5F5, which hopefully will be OK until I can decide a more ideal colour. It would be nice to be able to ask a top professional design team. I expect they have well calibrated and expensive monitors and varied opinions and skill sets to help them with their important team decisions.

Not many people visit the site anyway, I don't really try to promote it at all at the moment. If more people started to visit the site, then maybe I'd get more feedback about what people do or don't like.

Any choice is a good choice anyway Sometimes it's good to listen to your intuition/follow your own tastes to stand out of the crowd.

I've tried to compromise, and keep a white background, but hopefully have enough of a visual boundary between fields.

Having said that, soon I'll get some new glasses without the blue light filter. Without​ the blue light filter, it should be easier to judge color and brightness hopefully.

I'd say 'b', seems more user-friendly but I'd add more whitespace. Nice design though.

Thanks. That grey is #FBFBFB. I was just about to post or ask about recommended colors for my sidebar in the general section.

Does that grey seem a little pinkish to you? My monitors are not the best I suppose, and it seems a little pinkish, so I decided to stay away from it.

But I definitely need a color, I think. Cheers.
