July 8, 200818 yr After only 24 hours..... http://demos.orchidsuites.net/mperez/ Took the whole stylesheet too What a joke!!!
July 8, 200818 yr Author inbound traffic stats, I think the sod was hotlinking my stylesheet for a while before he saved his own copy
July 8, 200818 yr OMG! what's even worse than stealing the design is they are hot linking your images from your site too, so stealing your bandwidth, grr to them!
July 8, 200818 yr I'd laugh if this is Jaime Cressey again. Anyway you could have a laugh, make a copy of the images on your server, change the name and update your CSS. After you've done this change the images that he's using to something like "I steal websites for a living". Edit: Even better. Not sure if you can do this or not but could you put some PHP in the image (like the dynamic image things) which displays text as long as the visitors not from his ISP (you could do it by the way the IP address breaks down, the first 2 subsets usually denote the ISP) saying something similar? He'd not notice for a long time and he'd be touting it around as his own.

July 8, 200818 yr Oh come on - it's TOTALLY different... nope, hang-on it's a blatant rip-off. Pardon my French but what a c**t. Still, it shows your design is good enough to get ripped-off so quickly!
July 8, 200818 yr Author Well I've just sent his hosts, orchidsuites.net - a rather serious note saying that I'll take legal action if it's not gone by 5pm tomorrow. Didn't realise he was hotlinking the images, I'll go an rectify that right now.
July 8, 200818 yr Author hehehehe http://demos.orchidsuites.net/mperez/ edit: forgot unless you have 1920px wide resolution you won't be able to see the whole thing, so you may need to 'view background image' to shrink it down
July 8, 200818 yr Anyone going to fill in his questionnaire .. What do you think? Are we a nice group of people?
July 8, 200818 yr Author Says further up in the thread helen I just got a personal email of apology, says she was just trying to learn css and genuinely didn't mean to offend anyone - thought that was quite nice
July 8, 200818 yr ha ha.. how odd.. i was just trying to learn css so i stole a whole site and made no changes.. ?? err.. learning how ?
July 8, 200818 yr Says further up in the thread helen I just got a personal email of apology, says she was just trying to learn css and genuinely didn't mean to offend anyone - thought that was quite nice That's almost what Jamie said to me in his first apology Exact PM: Sorry Dizi it wasnt my intention to steel you work. I was going to use it as a template - yes I know I shouldn't have done that either. As you may have seen in my other posts I am learning PHP and MySQL, and making a CMS at the moment for this I wanted a clean coded site to implement the CMS just for ease for the time being. I know that doesn't make it right or anything and has now been removed. I'm really sorry I was not intending on using it as a live site at all - thus all the wording\links etc where in place still. Thats why he needed all my work too So just keep an eye on them, as how exactly did they learn by stealing your css, code and images?
July 8, 200818 yr Author sounded a bit more genuine to me Hi, I'm so sorry I'm just testing from my demo site and I'd like to assure you that I have no intention of getting your images for personal use. My demo site is now as clear as it was before (from scratch) please view it here: http://demos.orchidsuites.net/sites/mperez. I really am sorry I didn't erase everything immediately, I just ate my meal a while ago. I'm just trying to learn css and will not use any of your or other's images and my demo site will never go online as the demo site is for training only. I've learned my lesson, hope that you will accept my apology. Thank you very much. Regards, Melissa Perez
July 8, 200818 yr Sounds quite genuine but keep an eye out, I "borrowed" peoples code when I was learning it's how everyone starts you have a peek at how people made sites and then have a fiddle with there code. I wouldn't do that anymore but it helped me alot. Although I never stole whole sites lol.
July 8, 200818 yr I think that borrowing code and designs is fine, I did it as well...but I would never ever have placed these anywhere on the internet, these were for my learning and would be offline on my pc only. There is nothing wrong in my eyes with that, as deconstruction of sites can be very helpful... but people cross the line as soon as the place these sites somewhere online...that is stealing as even if you don't think of them as live if they are on the net and not password protected so that anyone could stumble on them, this is simply not acceptable at all.
July 8, 200818 yr Cant you enable hotlink protection? Wow another WDF rip in the space of a month - I hope someone doesn't try to nick mine...
July 8, 200818 yr Wow another WDF rip in the space of a month - I hope someone doesn't try to nick mine... Does make you think though doesn't it.
July 8, 200818 yr It's like the web lottery isn't it.......................it could be yoooooooooooouuuuuu!
July 8, 200818 yr nope, dosnt cost money, costs a day of been anoyed and sending email's to hosts.. oh and i've voted no on the Are we a nice group of people thing...i think alot of people have put no Are we a nice group of people? Yes 11% No 89% lol
July 8, 200818 yr I've found a way of protecting my copywriting services website - I haven't published it! It's a bit drastic, but it really is the best way to protect what I'm worried about - my content! If no-one can read it then it's safe! I also don't have to worry about SEO, spam, hackers, accessibility, valid HTML... I actually just wanted to say I voted "no" too - who puts a question like that up on their site? One it's ridiculous and two, even without our aggrieved mob, people are malicious/ mischievous enough normally to vote "No" on instinct! As for the letter - sounds genuine and, considering there was hotlinking of Eggman's stuff, it wasn't a major attempt to remain undiscovered eh?! But like you all say - deconstruct sites to learn by all means, just in the privacy of your own desktop!
