When designing for mobile and tablet I find it difficult to properly see how it will look on the device, exporting a jpeg and opening it on my phone has been the best solution. What does everyone else do? Are there any tools or platforms out there?

August 13, 201312 yr Exporting an image and viewing that on your phone isn't going to represent what the page would actually look like on your phone! You'd probably want to design a different experience for those with smaller screens anyway http://browserstack.com lets you live test for a whole load of browsers and platforms, there's a free trial too

What does everyone else do? Are there any tools or platforms out there? Not really sure what to say, other than I test it on my high-resolution desktop, laptop, tablet, then smartphone. Real thing > emulator.
August 14, 201312 yr I've also used browser stack, its absolutely excellent. The price plans aren't actually that bad considering what you get. I would say its one of the most important things in web design especially now to ensure that your websites work cross platform. What's the point in paying out for a website if no-one or a majority of its intended audience cant view it all or correctly. I've heard of others setting up multiple virtual desktops, but the advantage of browserstack is that you don't have to complete any updates or maintenance to these virtual machines yourself.

August 14, 201312 yr That's cool Lyndsey, could be very useful I test on all the native devices and browsers I can get, always best to test on native. Also I use IE tester-http://my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage works great and gives you the same results as native IE. I test in different browsers on iPhone, also Opera mobile simulator, anything I can test on really, different combinations of browsers and devices
