Also not sure about the brand name. Why you choose something that generic considering you are quite familiar with brand principles? The eras of successful generic brands such as IBM and General motors are long forgiven.

Not sure how smart is to base your brand in one place, unless it's New York or maybe London. When you expand your brand outside of Swindon you'll have to change your brand identity. Also registering a trademark "Logo Design Swindon" will not be possible, since IPO uk doesn't allow registering generic descriptive names.

I have a website for my graphic design studio, but felt that there was a need for something to appeal to someone that wasn't too design savvy wanting a design service to get them up and running. The two websites aim at entirely different audiences. I did note how much traffic the search term collected and I have also made an effort to push 'logo design swindon' up to the top in Google search terms. If it was my only graphic design business I would agree with what you were saying entirely.

Hi dap. I used 12px Helvetica which is on 120% line height. You are probably right that it needs increasing, especially with the amount of text (which needs editing), although I am not sure that the text needs to be bigger. It does look better at 140%. Originally had it at a larger size and it looked very clunky. I have created something using a modernist grid, so it probably does look a little print like. I do like a lot of white space in my designs and as a result the site may appear bland for some people's tastes. Thanks for the feedback.

That term on gets 22 searches per month, and you'd probably get a click through rate of around 50-60% so thats 10 visitors per month. EMD's are a nice idea but without the domain, you'd rank just as well really

The website is an experiment. The 10-15 visitors is fairly accurate for the time being, although graphic design swindon does get significantly more hits. I am currently fluctuating between page 1 and 2 on 'graphic design swindon' too and have had a few enquiries, so we will see. It is a learning curve for me, as I have done it all myself, whereas I normally use developers for client based work.

It seems to work in all browsers and hasn't affected SEO. In fact, using http://silktide.com/ there didn't seem to be any problem. I am getting enquiries through organic Google searches so cannot see much of a problem. I can see why developers don't like to see bad code and this was generated in Adobe Muse.

There are 22 monthly searches for 'logo design swindon' and 320 monthly searches for 'graphic design swindon'. I did plenty of research on the matter and as I said — it is running alongside my main business and website. By doing this, I am learning about SEO and doing market research into a specific area.

a subtle drop shadow on the fixed header might help separate it from the content more effectiveluy when you scroll. you need to worry more about how easy (or hard) your text is to read than how whether it looks 'clunky'

I agree with rallport. I'm not sure what silktide tests but semantic code is pretty important even for purely graphical services because of the merging nature of design and technology these days. Personally in future I would invest in developer.

So you are telling me you get project enquiries with 10-15 visitors? Can you tell me how you are doing this? This is not an ironic/offense question, I'm quite curious as I've got thousands of views before without almost any enquiries through organic Google search.
