Alive Cutting Boards a new wholesale web site, that will be controversial, we know this and this is what we want, to be different. This is not your safe don't take a chance web site. The product we are selling is new most people don't know about it yet, we hope to change that.

The product is a tempered glass cutting board. That is healthier and more beautiful than the ugly wood and plastic cutting boards, that people hide in dishwashers and cupboards. Take a look and let me hear from you.

I was expecting something revolutionary.. hate to say it, but it wasn't as cutting edge (sometimes I crack me up) as I was expecting. The flash intro didn't add anything for me.. I mean, I reckon most people know what a cutting board is for already, and it wasn't that interesting to watch.

 

The site layout itself is quite nice. The curves make a refreshing change from the usual boxiness. Not keen on all the animation, it makes a clean design look too busy. The top animation is a little distracting, and again, there doesn't seem to be a need for it. I'm not sure about the changing board displays.. I can imagine clicking to add one to the cart and it changing just as I click. While I could go back and change it, it's an extra step. I'd either change to static images or change the display time to once a minute or something.

 

Not keen on the header menu animating on every page change.. I wanted to change page after clicking the Retail button and had to wait.

 

I don't really like the way that after the index, you've got a boxy header and content area. It kills the strengths of the layout, which is the open, flowing feel.

 

One of your product images doesn't fit in the display space. It overlaps the boundaries.

You would be surprise at the comments about not knowing that we were selling cutting boards before we put in the flash.

my opinion:

 

The flash movie at the start was somewhat odd, it would have been better if the text at the top of the flash was not present when the transition from one cutting board to the next is there... i kept expecting that text to change but it never did.

 

The actual home page of the site isnt too bad - probably needs the navigation re-working - fitting text into circles is generally bad practise.

 

I'd definately re-work the logo.

I thought i might give my 2 cents on this. First of all the web standards validator says: 'Result: Failed validation, 302 Errors' which is kind of unacceptable from a designer who wants to provide a professional work.

I have never been a big fan of flash intros. Only a few people would actually take the time to have a look, the majority are annoyed that they cannot get straight to the web page.

 

I don't know if the layout is purposely broken to provide a revolutionary feeling but we all have to agree that techniques like the rule of thirds are there for a reason. When i saw the layout i went straight into the style.css to see what could have gone wrong because the right panel just feels off... no real flow there that is why it seems as if it was broken. I found nothing in the CSS because the site is coded in tables...hmmm

 

CSS is only used as inline styling...hmmm

 

I really appreciate if someone has a genuine passion for tables but as far as I'm concerned retro style coding is not really working in web design unless we want to dedicate our site as a tribute to the 90s web design.

 

So to sum up: I'd keep the colour scheme, get rid of the tables, flash intro and replace it with some cutting edge layout.

 

and correct some typos like: 'Retail sail is only allowed here..' (on the retail page)

Not only does it not render in Firefox properly Adblock Plus blocks most of the product images! I'll be brutally honest, I see nothing revolutionary or controversial in this site. In fact it looks like a badly hacked template site. You've got over 300 errors when I try to validate the code for starters.

Sorry to put a downer on things, but when you make bold statements as you did, you have to back them up with real substance. Being slightly cynical I'd say this was stunt to drive traffic to a faltering site to boost it's re-sale value, but thank god I'm not cynical eh?

Might be a Glos thing coz my Mum's in Ciren and she's got a glass board - gives me a headache chopping on it!

As a Amateur Chef - There is nothing worse for your knives then a Glass cutting board! It dulls the knive no end, and as Wizely states gives you a banging head ache!

As a restaurant owner, I know I can sharpen my knife many time over (and I did even when I used my wood cutting board) but I know glass cutting boards are safer and healthier "NO cross contamination from bacteria" this is possible with wood or plastic cutting boards. My health is far more important than my knives. I can buy more knives no matter what the cost and I had very expensive knives.

Reading from the first post, I thought is just a commercial and not in anyway asking for website feedback.

Just because you "can" use flash, doesn't mean you "should" use flash.

 

I really don't see anything daring / controversial about this site, just the work of someone who prefers working with flash to working with proper HTML / CSS.
