December 6, 201114 yr The "Looking to hire" area of this web site is now completely inactive. Clearly Bens master plan to create a fee paying system here to list jobs has back fired. That, coupled with the shameless advertising for Heart Internet has given me good reason to leave. Clearly the master administrator for this site couldn't give a monkeys about the community who has enabled him to make some money from. On that note, see you all later. Ben, you're a wanka. From one struggling web designer to another.
December 6, 201114 yr Ben a.g.r.c, you're a wanka. if it wasn't for him (BEN) none of us would actually be here. This site has inspired me to start out in the business and become a web designer. So take your opinions and shove up right your backside. You insulting nasty piece of dirt. You won't be missed. Trust Me. If we put his website in this post will it show up in the search engines with this post? Edited December 6, 201114 yr by RobbieD90
December 6, 201114 yr You're entitled to your opinions but making personal attacks on the owner of this forum because he doesn't allow crappy jobs on here without them forking out... really?
December 6, 201114 yr You're entitled to your opinions but making personal attacks on the owner of this forum because he doesn't allow crappy jobs on here without them forking out... really? It's hardly expensive and if they are serious whats £1.99.
December 6, 201114 yr whats the bets he comes back again to moan... I bet Paddy Powers odds are good man
December 6, 201114 yr I bet Paddy Powers odds are good man They always are Mike. I always bet with them football, horse racing and cricket.
December 6, 201114 yr It's hardly expensive and if they are serious whats £1.99. Think I'd spend more on a sandwich , I must say there seems to be a good selection of what look like quality jobs here for those who seek them. This forum like any other is a place for discussion and Ben has added this as a "nice to have" to help the community, and I suspect many have benefited from that, I'm sure you can find many a freelance job or agency if you wish to tempt both fait and your luck. December 6, 201114 yr LOL What a tool. Crying over a few adverts. Actually made me laugh to be honest.
December 6, 201114 yr 'looks like we've been had'. a bit dramatic. ya'd swear we all paid to get on the site. he has over 1000 posts. he obviously feels very strongly bout it hahaha surely there HAS to be better ways of getting work then a web design forum? he doesnt even have a portfolio site up, how does he expect to get work if he cant show any of his work anyway....ah poor fella
December 6, 201114 yr Author That's right, continue with the information you got here guys. See how content you are in life with your clearly adequate levels of consideration.
December 6, 201114 yr See how content you are in life with your clearly adequate levels of consideration. Please do elaborate, crying boy.

If his click through rates are anything like on the one where I have the adverts he might make about a fiver here and there, on a good year
December 6, 201114 yr Lots of forums im a member of charge, its a way of bringing costs down, admin, server etc. 99Design get involved.
December 6, 201114 yr That's right, continue with the information you got here guys. See how content you are in life with your clearly adequate levels of consideration. I'm perfectly content thanks. I don't go crying about how a forum doesn't pander to my every need and if i felt like that, i'd do something about it like start my own. I'm come here to chat about web design/development, ask for help and help others. I don't even notice the ads and the looking to hire section is far better where as before it was just a joke.
December 6, 201114 yr Most people come here for help so as long as people are getting help whether people can apply for jobs or not on here is of little importance. I should hope Ben does make some money out of this site he did spend the time making and although the content is by the community it is their choice to be involved. I've got plenty out of this website without the need of payment for my time. Edited December 6, 201114 yr by WBC
December 6, 201114 yr Author Okie to address a few issues here. The additional forum of "looking to hire" was purely a bonus. Yes, it was something not required here, but a nice addition to those who felt it useful. It wasn't my only stream of work, and if you look at the posts I've made you'll find community discussion / contributions far out weigh work related. However with this bonus aspect of the site helping a few secure some projects to work on, my assessment (insult me or not) is that Ben decided he'd like a slice of that pie. So that's all fine and dandy, you're right... for maintaining a web site he's entitled to claim a return from it. With that the fee paying model was introducted (£1.99) as outlined above. Thing is, he's given it no thought whatsoever, implemented purely as a bolt on and failed miserably. Look at the activity in that bonus area of the site and you'll notice it's dropped massively. So, what should he do? Strangle the rest of us as he executes his malformed plan? Well no that's not good enough if you ask me, he's tried to re-invent the wheel that the rest of already invented. But hey you're all completely right and it's his site. The Heart Internet issue, again if you look at my previous topics you'll find a topic that was helpful to many. So much so I receive a few emails asking for recommendations... It's not the case of everyone, Heart can suit some and never run into issues. It's all written in the fore-mentioned article. As for anything outside of addressing these points, all very rude, untimely and insulting posts. Could easily play that game too but to be honest there's been tougher challenges in Saturday nights munchie box.
December 6, 201114 yr Author i thought you had gone? Well there were valid points to address, rather than stay about throwing insults felt it was important to feedback on those that were valid. None of your points were valid, but don't worry they were considered.

I don't really understand your logic though, you make money from part of this forum, which I guess heavily out weighs the £1.99 membership, yes depending on the type of person you are you can be angry but surely you bite your lip because the good out weighs the bad. Just so you know hotukdeals moneysavingexpert, some of if not the largest forums in the UK, take the users findings and if the merchant the user is talking about is part of there affiliate network they replace the referring link with a aff link. Its just the way it works give and take. Edited December 6, 201114 yr by opensesame

December 6, 201114 yr How many of the posts that we used to get in that area were spam, free loaders or complete time wasters? I don't know as I take no interest in getting any work from this site, but I don't have to explain to anybody why they aren't getting services for free any more.

This is a well thought out, considered post, backed up with evidence and for the most part i agree. Mike, all of my words are considered. Being active in the forum you should understand a whole host of things get lost in translation, tone, context and the bigger picture. Regardless, there were very specific points in the op which were a double edge sword in which i'm surprised some more experienced members failed to be receptive to. I'll see this thread through but wont be making any more new topics or joining in. Why common-as-muck Alzer is worried about that is beyond me.
December 6, 201114 yr whats the bets he comes back again to moan... i should set up a page and call it 'The Return of the Turnip' Al was right the TURNIP RETURNS. If it's that bad why is he still posting. Get a life. You have come her spoiling for a fight you got one because nobody agreed with you so you are back here continuing to talk utter rubbish. Why don't you just talk your unwanted opinions and nonsense to a forum that actually cares what you think.

December 6, 201114 yr 'common-as-muck' haha love it. "From one struggling web designer to another" why do you get the impression Ben is a struggling designer? think this site looks very well and i'd say he is a very good designer. usually good designers rise to the top meaning i doubt he is struggling. especially the way things are at the minute. business is booming for most designers i know.
