October 19, 201114 yr Seriously. I couldn't make it any worse if I tried! It has one page, spacings are all wrong, styles are inline, code is probably pretty poor as it was my first attempt... I want to completely redesign it but it is so much harder than designing for a client. Everytime I open Fireworks to make a start I go completely blank. Is it just me? Did you find designing your own site the hardest? Where do I start? Help!

I think its easy as long as your honest about it, when I start to design it to make it look bigger than what I am (no offense and not saying your trying to do that!!) that's when I start to struggle and that's mainly down the the content. October 19, 201114 yr I don't think good designers are ever happy with their work, because they strive for perfection. That's what makes them good designers, as opposed to those that do it for money. At the moment we don't like our website either, but its unrealistic to redesign before christmas. When we do we'll sit down and do some super duper market research, see what we love, what we hate, then decide what we love about our site, and what we don't. Char

Thankfully still get the work in haha Another thong, as a professional in the industry you're always tempted to use the latest trends and technology (because that's what keeps you interested) but these things change so fast that you always feel like you're behind the times unless you change it on a daily basis. Trick is to build something sensible and accessible and only adjust it when really necessary. If you want something to play with then start a side project of some sort.

October 19, 201114 yr My website is pants! Another thong, Write yourself a brief. Sorry, couldn't resist... Seriously though, pretend it's a client broject and write a brief. Then work out your information architecture and write your content (because you want to be a good client, right?) Then, and only then, work on the project. Set yourself aside some time to do it, too - you don't want to be starting work on it in your 9th hour of the day.

October 19, 201114 yr I'm not one for giving praise as you all well know - but what I like about Pandas and Mikes sites are that they have personality. I'm doing a new site for the new year and I'm going to try and be more myself rather than what I think people expect me to be. (I hope that doesn't backfire!)
October 20, 201114 yr Author I'm so glad I'm not the only one This is my site - there's not one bit of it that I would keep, honestly. I really like the idea of pretending it is a client project, thinking about it now I've been a very bad client! And I do always start looking at it in the 9th 10th 11th hour. I use a project planner for my clients so I think I'll start by filling one out myself and then set some time aside to actually design it. I already know I want a minimalist site but that's as far as I've got.

Id ditch the phone code, no need for it on a site with all the information on one page if you ask me, I like pink but that colour isnt working for me, you either need a real dark shade or a paler pink to make the current one stand out than letting it lie flat on the page. Why don't you give a brief to another design and get it drawn up?
